It just seems a really odd (and kind of bigoted) statement to make that you're considering leaving the country just because a celebrity is gay.

Seems a little close-minded to me to criticize someone for her own opinion. She would just take herself out of an area that made her uncomfortable. She didn't say to send homosexuals out. There's a bit of a difference.

That I questioned it isn't evidence of a closed mind -- on the contrary, I really want to know the answer, because I just can't wrap my brain around the fact that she seems to be saying that she wants to leave an entire country ("I guess we Canucks are just more open and liberal...time for me to move?") because she knows something about a celebrity that she didn't know yesterday.

It seems a little closed-minded to me to want to leave a country because of a gay celebrity. But whatever.

Ummm, I found out about Rick Mercer several months ago. There was something in Toronto's Starweek about it when his new show debuted. I'm just sick and tired of the liberal politics in this country, that's all...and I don't just mean the government in Ottawa (and Queen's Park). We don't have any values here anymore.....I'm surprised that people from more conservative countries are moving in.

She said she'd voluntarily leave the country just because a CELEBRITY and apparently a lot of her countrymen/women are "liberal". It was obvious that to her, "liberal" = "homosexual". Do you know how fucking ridiculous that sounds? This isn't a personal attack to her, but add that to the list of close-minded things she's said so far. It's no secret that many of her views are old-fashioned, so if people choose to criticize them -- then they have a right to.
