If you have the opportunity, travel as much as possible and definitely stay for a while after the program ends. Take out loans or whatever and just do it, no matter the cost. My suggestion is to try to make good friends with the locals. They will be able to show you the areas off the beaten path and those are ALWAYS better than the tourist attractions. They'll also help with the language. Try to blend in an not be so "American" so you avoid haters. Be aware of the places that people warn you about traveling to but don't be scared to go. Be smart about it ie. travel with others, know where you are going (don't just wonder around), keep your money in a money belt. I mean if they say not to go to Iraq or something, listen but Turkey and other places surrounding Greece are fine. I studied in Santiago, Chile for six months and traveled ALL over South America. If I had listened when people told me not to go into Bolivia and Peru, I would have missed some of the most beautiful places on earth. Just don't put your self in a dangerous situation. And be smart at night, especially when you have been drinking, don't walk alone, and keep your money in a safe place. I was robbed on the street late at night when I was in Chile. Also, if you are in a hotel, don't trust the maids because they stole from me too.

I feel like everyone should study abroad. Your whole outlook on life will change and you will appreciate things more. Have the most awesome time and soak it in. Take every opportunity and no regrets!!!
