I have seen this scenario play out in a few different areas--

It is possible that a hypothetical collegian alienated sisters and advisers, and as an alumna, also did things to make other members question that sister's abilities-- whether by something she said, did, etc. Despite her best efforts to change her image, that sister is still held in some questionable regard by alumnae and local collegians, despite the woman's desire to "help."

I can imagine how frustrating it would seem for that sister to see others being given an opportunity to assist, while she is snubbed, and empahize with her over her agony-- after all, all she wants to do is help and people keep turning her away or ignoring her completely!

I again advise anyone in that situation to walk away and put your efforts into something new-- make a fresh start and be a credit to a group that will appreciate you, return your calls and make you feel good about your volunteerism. Let some years go by... and then try anew with the organization, in this case the sorority.

I hope that helps. PM me if you want.

ETA: I've seen this happen with ladies involved in sororities, civic groups and PTAs, so I'm not picking on anyone. I hope it hasn't seemed that way!

Maybe there are other ways you can help... like by making little sandwiches for collegians to munch on during the 5 minutes they have in between recruitment parties (Recruitment is a crazy stressful day and I don't remember being able to sit down and have a real meal until it was all over!) I think they would appreciate that gesture. The cool thing about that is you don't hve to spend all day serving ice-waters if they already have plenty of those, but you can still help out the collegians. :)
