Again, agreeing with ksigrc here.

ITs your hubbies parents. If you guys can afford it, and especially given that your hubby is the wage earner of the family as well as the fact you despise your in-laws for an unknown reason, it would look really petty of you to protest too much.

Just take comfort in your new BMW.

OH as an added note:

If your hubby is just going to do it anyway, whats the point in ceating drama and bad feelings when he is just going to over rule you?

Also, if he is the kind of person to just give in because you don't want to do it, but will resent you for interfering, don't protest it.

Is this cruise on the Queen Mary? It seems extremely expensive for two people for a regular cruise. Maybe you could find an alternate (cheaper) cruise.

It's a long Royal Carribbean cruise with all the bells and whistles imaginable. Brother in law and sister in law picked it'; it's very much something they'd do for themselves. (For the life of me, I can't figure out how brother-in-law can maintain their very lavish lifestyle on a cop's salary)

As for a cheaper cruise, I mentioned to kddani earlier tonight that I would be willing to spring for a few hours on the riverboat "Gateway Clipper" and they could cruise up and down the Allegheny River gazing at the Pittsburgh skyline.

OR maybe a Circle Liner cruise since they live right outside of NYC? Hmmmm... :)

Omigosh - I was going to suggest the Gateway Clipper with Primanti's sandwiches! :D

Seriously, have a party OR send them on a decently priced cruise (but only if you promise not to hope the ship sinks!). Or better yet, I suggest that you each put that $2,400 into an account for the mother of all Fiftieth Anniversaries! Unless one of the two is unlikely to make it to their 50th, having a huge splash for the 40th will just set the bar too high for their 50th.

Talked to my younger sister (the Voice of Reason) and she pretty much said it's not worth getting my panties in a twist over that amount of money and that it must have been a slow week with nothing for me to bitch about and that's why I let this bother me. Damn, the kid's smart...

So I wrote out the check to my BIL and mailed it at the post office so I couldn't change my mind.

Gads, I think I may be getting nice in my old age.

Nah :D
