I don't discriminate, I go out all nights of the week.
But seriously, there is a reason why I only have one Friday class and it's at 2pm. |
Makes me wonder why my professor was wondering, if most people across the country often don't go to class on Fri. either.

old timer chimes in
At Eastern Michigan, 20 years ago, Thursday was often Friday. It was a "suitcase" college, meaning that most students went home for weekends, so if you were going to go out with your college friends, you did it Thursday night. There was also an attitude that it's not too bad to party on Thursday night because you only had to get through Friday and then it was the weekend. You can deal with being too tired for one day of classes.
I never missed class and once I was in my professional program, we only had class on Mon and Wed with fieldwork on Tues, Thurs or Friday (2 of the 3 days). We all scheduled the fieldwork for Tues and Thurs if possible. Dee |
Damn, makes me feel a bit responsible.
I work Tues and/or Thurs at 6AM and have class MWF at 8, and work most Sundays at 6AM. So I only hit each night of the week about once in a month, (7 nights spread out over 30 days). Monday night: a Pissed of Japanese Minnow Farmer or 2 and a pitcher of Miller Lite with some buds down at Welch Avenue Station Tuesday night: the place to be is The Blazing Saddle in Des Moines for cheap draws. Wednesday evening: buck burgers at Paddy's Thursday night: $6 cover, then coin-drinks at Big Shots Friday night: 2-for-1 bottles and strippers at The Garden in Des Moines Saturday night: my neighbor is my bartender at Welch Avenue Station Sunday night: 10PM drag comedy at The Garden in Des Moines, or just head to Welch Avenue Station and hang with some friends. |
Amazing, no wonder there are so few 4 year students.
My schedual was 5 days week and I attended all classes. Of course, I started at 7:30 in the AM and Last class got out at 11:30, AM. Bars opened at 12:00. Hell, had to get a ride first! Try this crap in the real world and live on the street, no money, no funny! Good Times, was a TV Show only. |

My Buy!:D |
As an official Old Person (i.e. someone who's been out of college for more than a year :p), I can say that I still consider Thursday night to be the first day of the weekend. I remember reading about how college students were going out on Thursdays in a magazine back when I was in high school, so it's not really a new thing, at least not around here. My older sister (who graduated college in the early 90's) says she used to do it, too. Personally, I like the idea of an extended weekend--I think the week should be 2 days long instead of the weekend.

Akron is definately home to the Thursday night start to the weekend. If you wanted to know if someone was going to be out that night, all you had to do was show up and find out.
The trend used to be BW3's for ladies night till 12 (dollar drinks/dollar shots) and then head over across the street to Mannys for $5 draft pitchers. Nice. Now its going downtown to the many bars down there or even a combination of that and the above. Still many good times either way and I sometimes wish I still went as often as I did. |

thursday is a good thing. although i have always been of the belief that if you get past tuesday the rest of the week is downhill.
belly up to the bar boys... |
In my little college town, Thursday is definitely the new Friday. There is always something going on. But, my first class on Friday is at 10 (not too early) and it's my only one unless I have to work. Most of the people I know don't even have classes on Friday and more professors are starting to do their schedule that way.

In college, our "weekend" always started with ladies night on Wednesday's. By the time you were at school for a semester, your realized this and planned your classes to begin later in the day the next day. A lot of students also preferred going to classes longer on Tues & Thurs as opposed to the 3 day per week M-W-F schedule so they could have the 3 day weekend.
Now that I am a "grown-up" I occasionally will go out on a Thursday night because Friday's I try to plan my schedule pretty lightly at work. |
*sticks out like sore thumb*
thursday is not friday, here. if anything, it's the new sunday, because it's the night when people work really hard to get their projects and homework done so that they can party on friday and saturday nights. |
