October 20, 2004 -- The "Chapelle's Show Season One: Uncensored" DVD has now become the biggest-selling TV show on DVD, surpassing "The Simp sons: The Complete First Season" with over two mil lion units sold, according to Videoscan and retail sources. The DVD version of Dave Chappelle's Comedy Central show has also spawned "Chappelle's Show: Season Two Uncensored" (Feb. 8).
Chappelle, who recently inked a two-year, $50 million deal with Comedy Central to continue hosting his show, is also the focus of tonight's "60 Min utes Wednesday" as he sits for an interview with Bob Simon (8 p.m./Ch. 2). Chappelle, obviously influenced by the comedy of Richard Pryor, is amazed to hear that Pryor's wife told "60 Minutes Wednesday" that Pryor feels as though he's "passed the torch" to Chappelle (Pryor has MS and is incapacitated). "All right, that's more pres ure than $50 million," Chap pelle tells Simon. "He was the best, man." |
I heard Dave was on 60 Minutes II last night. Did anyone see it?

The upcoming third season of Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show is apparently only half-baked. Work on the hugely anticipated new season of Dave Chappelle's sketch show is behind schedule due to its 31-year-old ringleader's illness and lack of new material from his writing staff, according to the New York Post. The new season was supposed to premiere Feb. 16. It will now begin airing sometime in late April or May, per the Post. "Dave--and his entire production crew for that matter--got a bit of a late start on writing season three," network spokeman Tony Fox told the newspaper. Chappelle has reportedly been laid up with a nasty flu bug, adding to delays brought on by the lack of written material so far for season three. The Emmy-nominated comedy is currently on hiatus for the holidays and will resume production in January. Last week, Paramount pushed back the season 2 DVD release--which had been slated to hit stores Feb. 8 to coincide with the new TV season--presumably due to the production slowdown. No new release date for the DVD has been set yet. There was no immediate comment Monday from Comedy Central or Chappelle's publicist. Since the offbeat sketch show debuted in January 2003, it has steadily built a large following. By the end of season two, the half-hour show was often pulling in more than 3 million viewers. The DVD release of season one currently ranks as the all-time top-selling TV show on DVD. In August, Chappelle reupped with Comedy Central in a massive two-year deal, valued at $50 million by the Hollywood Reporter. The deal also set a new Industry precedent--reportedly giving the funnyman a large cut of backend DVD sales. In addition to his gig at Comedy Central, Chappelle had been working on a book for Hyperion. No word on the book's status; there's also no word on the rumored movie deal with Paramount for Chappelle to portray Rick James in a biopic. Prior to work on his new TV season, Chappelle had been overseeing a feature film/DVD project combining sketch comedy with footage from a Brooklyn block party filmed in September that featured a reunited Fugees. A 10-person crew, directed by Michel Gondry, captured the Chappelle-conceived event. |

Glad I read this before I gave Amazon my $$ to pre-order. I would've been  if I paid for it and had to wait longer than February. |
In case anyone is having CS withdrawls the next 5 Wednesday nights at 10:30 PM(tonight was night one) Comedy Central will be counting down the top 5 Chappelle's Show episodes as voted by the fans. Tonight's episode (#5) was Making the Band. "Breast Milk. . . you made my daaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!". I'm hoping to see that Rick James episode one more time so I can record it on my DVR, since the new season still isn't on yet.

Dave hasn't aired the Rick James episode since Rick passed away. I hope he will allow it to air, ESPECIALLY if the fans voted for it.

"Chappelle's Show" Shut Down
From Yahoo!:
Chappelle's Show is a no go, bitch! In a surprise announcement Wednesday, Comedy Central announced that the highly anticipated third season of Dave Chappelle's will not make its May 31 premiere date. "Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of Chappelle's Show until further notice," network spokesman Tony Fox said in a brief statement. "All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future." Remainder of Story This also means no DVD at the end of the month!! |
Dear Dave,
Im tired of this !@$#! Now I have waited and waited for this third season, but now your starting to get on my last nerve. Where is the new material? See, you need to leave the cows and chickens alone on that farm in Ohio and get your azz back to the comedy central studios and start taping. You, Charlie Murphy, Paul Mooney, the guy that plays Ashy Larry should have something together by now? Did the 50 million dollars trip you out? I can help you get back on track and get my third season aired. Don't let me have to step foot in Ohio! Your fan.. Uppinkies P.S. If your still sick, then you need to find a better doctor. |
