if you are looking for a great breeder, call local vet offices and ask them if they have any recomendations for breeders of blah, blah, blah. I did this for our Jack Russell (who now lives with my parents), and each of the 4 vets I called in town all could highly recommend my breeder. This is a sure fire way to get a reputable breeder, and not some puppy mill breeder. would chat more but gotta run!

I also have a yorkie. He is the love of my life. A wonderful companion. I lived alone for a few years and he was the greatest little guy. He is sooooo loyal. He however gets VERY jealous. He has a hard time sharing attention with my family's dog. Because of new room mate issues he has to stay at my parent's house, but when I graduate in May and move my little Cole will be right by my side. He is a MAMA'S boy!!! The greatest thing is he knows when I am happy and knows when I am sad. When I would cry he would literally come lay beside me and lick my tears off my face. ( no lie...he knows) and he looooves UT football. You say "Touchdown Tennessee!" and Cole jumps up on his hind legs and throws his paws up in a touchdown motion. I think a Yorkie is a great choice....the cutest little littles ever! Good luck!:D

Penny -- how is your puppy search going?

I recently graduated and with in the first 2 months of living on my own; I adpoted a Chihuahua mix from the pound, named Charlotte. She is the love of my life.

Please please consider getting a pound puppy. I have had both a pound puppy and one from a breeder. I know that a Yorkie might seem like the greatest dog ever, but to justify spending 1200 dollars on a dog when there are wonderful dogs for almost no money at the pound that need homes. Why support the "puppy mills" when the price of a pound puppy goes to the SPCA as a donation to keep dogs alive? When I went to pick out my little dog she was huddled in the corner, dirty, and sick. She was beaten and kicked, and social services even took the kids away from the home she was in. I don't know how anyone could beat a 10 pound little puppy. I knew that I couldn't leave her there and took her home to my house where she would so much love to make up for her tough life. She went from being skinny and abused to running around in a Coach collar and being pampered to death. Her story is not unusal. My parents pound puppy was found taped up in a box and left in a grave yard to die. They couldn't leave her either. Visit a few pounds and get the dogs stories. You'll change your mind.

You have to be patient when looking for a small dog at the pound. Check back periodically. The right dog will finds it's way to you. They say that the dog picks you out.

I don't mean to sound preachy but I feel very strongly about this. In the US we are lucky to even have an animal control system. I spent some time in Chile and there were mangled, half-starved three legged dogs running around EVERYWHERE and it broke my heart.

A pound puppy will love you back even more because they will appreciate the life you give them.

I LOVE MY POUND PUPPY. Anna is a red heeler (blue heeler mix) (she looks just like a dingo) It was just me and her before mr conniebama came along.

I got her when she was about 8 weeks and she is SMART. We lived in an apartment for about a year before I bought a house and (ok here is why i am entering this reply) I installed a doggie door.

DOGGIE DOORS ARE #1. Red heelers are medium sized dogs and they need a little room. That doggie door has changed my life. All I have to do is love her and feed her and she takes care of the rest. Apparently dogs would prefer to go to the bathroom outside and I never have to worry about her getting cold outside or messing up the house inside because she goes where she needs to go. Also no more early morning wake ups.

I realize if you have an apartment that you may not be able to get a doggie door but if you own your own house i am telling you now GET A DOGGIE DOOR. They have them for all sized dogs.

I was gonna name her ella (for adpi reasons) but anna suited her and came to me first. (also, fyi mr conniebama and i are not intending on having children so we have become those crazy dog people who treat their dog like a child, I say that with no apologies)
