Tri-Sig House

That's a good house and should be a good location, near the stadium. I did love the old mansion. Sorry it was a problem, but what a look.

That is a GREAT house in a perfect location. You should do well there once the renovation is done.

if you pm penguintrax she will probably be able to let you know how dg did. i hope that the university does not buy the dg house, it is such a lovely house. and i think that firehouse is a pike-remember, they used to(and may still have) a firetruck, that they used to tool around campus in?

Who bought the old Sig Ep house that was next door to DG? Where is SDT going to be?

Firehouse 09-17-2004 10:58 AM

I'm sure that information is known; I just don't know it myself. Sorry.

I believe the university is taking over that property for the Music School.

Before SFE owned the house, it was the AOP house.

That's too bad. I was hoping that the old AOPi/Sig Ep hous, and the old AZD/LXA house would stay out of university hands. That way PanHel could grow to 18 chapters without new sororities having to jump through hoops.

Good point, Russ. Same goes for the old Sigma Kappa house. I hope they hold onto it and come back.

Bot SK and SSS still own their homes and land, so I don't think there will be an issue.

Question for Penguin Trax: Glad to hear about SigKappa and Tri-Sigma properties. PanHellenic just expanded by adding a very well regarded but special-interest sorority. What are the chances of an expansion to include one or more of the general interest sororities like Sigma Kappa and Tri-Sig, especially in light of the properties? How long do they have to wait? Is there a school rule? Thanks

No rules, and Sigma Kappa was one of the two groups being considered for the recent expansion. I think that once the newest chapter on campus and the couple of chapters that are currently working on bringing up numbers are strong and thriving, I think it's entirely likely that the campus could support a 16th group. However, that's just my opinion and the final decision would be up to Panhellenic. I'd say no sooner than 2 years, though.

My concern with waiting for the struggling chapters is that one of them (I won't mention them here) has been struggling for years. Waiting for that chapter to improve would mean no further expansion. PanHel was able to look past them for the current expansion, and I hope that they do so again.

I wonder if Tri Sig and SK would come back on. Also wonder if AOPI, Alpha Phi or Alpha Xi Delta would ever consider coming back. I remember slogging through 18 ice waters as a freshman!
They've been gone for ages and although I know who some of the groups with lower numbers are, they have strong strong nationals and certainly have a long history at FSU.
Heck, the youngest of the NPC groups has been at FSU since 1960. And they are arguably one of the three strongest NPC groups around on a national level. Would hate to see them leave.

AOII had been selected to be a part of the recent expansion and withdrew from the opportunity to present. I don't know why.

It would be nice if Sigma Kappa and Tri-Sigma could re-establish a presence on campus.

As far as the (unmentioned) struggling chapter - they are working hard at turning things around and even though they were struggling, the campus still voted to expand. I believe that the group that was chosen, SDT, does not present a 'direct competition' problem with the chapter in question, and their presence on campus will bring a lot more women into Recruitment than before. These women may find a home outside SDT, thereby increasing the strength of all chapters involved. :D

The group we're talking about has struggled for decade upon decade. A new group coming in will have a different attitude, will be able to display energy and enthusiasm, and will be an attractive alternative to new prospects. I do support the addition of this new sorority.
Here's a question: the only time I've seen sororities improve from the situation we're discussing here is when women from good chapters transfer in and take over. Do the national sororities have programs to send in transfers to change the cultures and mentality of chapters that see themselves as lost?
