FSU's quarterback thinks his name is God:


TALLAHASSEE - Florida State quarterback Wyatt Sexton, after acting delusional and wearing only shorts in the middle of a residential street, remained hospitalized Tuesday after being forcibly restrained by police.

Sexton, 20, whose threatening behavior required police to subdue him with pepper spray, said he was "God" and continued claiming he was the "son of God" while being transported to a hospital Monday.

"Based on my training and experience, Sexton appeared to be under the influence of some unknown narcotic or alcohol," said police officer Robert Todd, the first to arrive on the scene, writing in a incident report. "He was hot and sweaty, and was talking very irrationally."

Sexton, the sixth Florida State quarterback in seven years to be involved in an off-field incident requiring disciplinary action, had returned Monday from attending the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival last weekend in Manchester, Tenn., near Nashville.

The three-day event, known as a modern-day Woodstock, featured rock acts including the Black Crowes and Dave Matthews Band. Sexton went with several friends from Tallahassee and traveled without his parents' or coaches' approval.

According to police, Sexton's friends said they returned around noon Monday. They were asleep later and unaware of Sexton's whereabouts.

Neighbors called police after seeing Sexton, shirtless, barefoot and wearing cutoff shorts, doing pushups in the street and acting irrationally.

A witness told police she had to avoid striking Sexton with her car as she tried to return home. Sexton then yelled, "Hey lady, come here," as the woman quickly entered her home and locked the door.

When police arrived, Sexton was lying in the street. After finally responding to police, Sexton claimed he was "God' and "Son of God" when asked for his name. After leaping to his feet and then taking a step towards an officer, Sexton screamed, "Quit (messing) with me," as police approached.

According to the police report, pepper spray was then used. Sexton was handcuffed without resisting. He was transported to the hospital, where officials cited privacy laws in declining to give out information on Sexton.

In the police report, Sexton had to remain handcuffed in the hospital after continuing his claim to be "son of God" and trying to leave the hospital.
