Thursday/Friday are the peak of hurricane season. After this week, (historically) it will begin to slack off (after Ivan, of course).
lifesaver was a meterology major in college, before he changed to another worthless degree, political science. |
as of right now, it is headed for the gulf of mexico. but we know how things change...

ZTAngel, so sorry to hear about your house! :( Best wishes for a speedy recovery and help from FEMA/insurance!
|
ZTAngel- keep us updated. I doubt there is much we on GC can do but offer our thoughts and prayers as well as an outlet for your frustrations over the repair process.
((HUGG)) |
Just saw on The Weather Channel that its now a Cat 5 storm and almost a Super Cat 5 with winds at 160 MPH. Damn, that shit is just scary. Lets hope it weakens before it makes landfall. That shit would be on par with Camille and the 1900 Galveston storm (intensity, hopefully not lives lost).
They also said that 90% of the homes on Grenada were damaged or destroyed. And that happened when the storm was a Cat 3. |
Bend over, Florida... here comes Ivan!
Sucks to be hit three times in rapid succession by three hurricanes... :( Chances are that it may weaken as it crosses Cuba, but it might intensify as it crosses the Straits of Florida. |
This might sound a little mean, but I hope all these storms scare the crap out of all the old people/retirees and inturn makes them want to leave SoFL. Sometimes I wish they all lived in the panhandle.
On a serious note, I'm really worried about Ivan. I was one of the lucky people in my neighborhood to have not lost power, TV, Sat, Water or had structure damage to our house. 3 houses down from me our neighbor had a huge oak tree crash into his house. That was actually a common thing in my neighborhood, seeing trees crashed on houses with 20 ft+ of roots dangling in the air. My roomates and I were being good samaritans and let people in our neighborhood come by for some refreshing AC, kill some beers and use the phone. We actually had parties all day/all night for 3-4 days. All our friends came over, we were barbecue'ing in the storm with 50mph winds going crazy around us, had a frig slam packed full of beer and Jaegermeister with a couple packs of redbull. Keep in mind though, we're in Jacksonville. It was by far a fun labor day weekend even with Frances. I don't think Ivan will be fun for anyone. :( |

Go away you stupid hurricane!
I'm just tired of having no power, no a/c, and not being able to leave the house because we're afraid someone will steal the generators. I just want life back to normal. Oh yeah, and running water. |

i definitely feel your pain considering i live about 20 min. from you. i did not lose any power either since my neighborhood's power lines are underground. Ivan is freaking me out too. this is just one really bad season for everyone esp. florida. i hear that the chance is greater that the storm will either go to the Bahamas or the Gulf of Mexico. florida is just caught in the middle. we are definitely in danger though. i heard on the news that when Ivan went through Guatemala, it destroyed a prison and all the prisoners escaped!! |
