Funny story... my sister ran into him when he was getting out of a cab and she was getting in. She looked at him for a second, realized who he was, and screamed , "Jeter, Jeter, Jeter!" You have to hear it for the full effect, but it's funny. :) |

lol! i probably would have said, "hey baby" in a really sexy voice....no i am dreaming. |
its a meaningless game in the midst of september.
Rest assured BoSox fans, the Yanks will be more than prepared to defend their AL crown once the playoffs start. As long as Loiza is out of the rotation by then. 22-0 the first week of september means bullshit, when we all know that the Yanks will own the Sox in their last 2 series of the season. Kitso KS 361 times i rooted for the Cubs and BoSox, before i was aware of the GCers who rooted for them also |

how about we just wait for the games to be played before we talk? and the fact that the sox jumped from 10.5 to 3.5 back shows they are doing something right.. |

Dude I thought you left GC for dead - like, in the Shakespearean sense PS - the Yanks are in freefall; notice that lead dropping from 10 1/2 to 3 1/2? It's not just Loaiza, who will certainly not be in the postseason rotation . . . Vasquez is throwing like he's got a dead arm (or a shoulder injury), Mussina looks terrible, etc etc. A-Rod has been 'slumping' (as much as the best player alive can slump, anyway), and various injuries are nagging at a team that's not really very deep to start with (think Tony Clark continues to play like this?). They're still the best team in the AL - but they look human, much more so than even when the Angels stunned them. PPS - dude, did you forget last year's ALCS? One of the best series ever, 7 games? What makes you think the Yankees somehow automatically dominate the Red Sox? The lifetime record (non-playoff, obviously) is eerily near .500 for each side . . . and real cute, w/ the GC dig from a dude who left in a huff |
All this talk about the Sox, year after year. If the Sox finally win a World Series does that means that the fans will stop talking?

As one of the top two or three Yankees fans on here I feel compelled to respond to this sickening thread.
I hate to admit it, but the Yankees are not nearly as deep as in other years. Their bench is weak at best; I'd love to see Tony Clark and Miguel Cairo keep putting up solid numbers, but I don't think it's going to happen. That and the fact that maybe Gordon and Quantrill have been slowing down after such good seasons...that's what happens when the starting pitching is mediocre. The game against Cleveland made me sick to my stomach, and this shrinking lead is about to make me even sicker. Can they hold on...yes, given that the Sox are playing above their abilities. The fact is that this is going to be one interesting Sept. and playoff season. |

Well-put, Deuce - it's going to be a great postseason regardless |

There's another subplot in all of this, which I had forgotten about until ESPN did a story on it; the MVP race between Manny and Shef. Especially during this last month, both of these guys have been out of control. I think whoever wins the pennant gets the MVP (unless Manny's numbers completely blow away Gary's).
Both won last night...finally a good all-around performance by the Yanks, and finally two good starting efforts in a row. Heard a rumor yesterday that during the Varitek/A-Rod confrontation, the comment that set A-Rod off was when Varitek told him "What, you think we'd put a .260 hitter on base?" |

In terms of "most valuable", sheffield has probably been more important to the yankees, at least in the last 6 weeks or so - he's almost single-handedly carried that offense (i guess 'Godzilla' hasn't sucked either, but everyone else has been off). Interestingly this year the Sox will be the one to split the MVP voting - I think Papi's season detracts from Manny's chances a little, and Shef takes it unless the Angels get hellishly hot (or Johan Santana wins it, which I think he should). hijack- here is another shocker, but it is about football. Jacksonville Jaguars beat the New England Patriots 31-0. it may have been a preseason game and we are excited about the win, but that score is leaving the locals here a little mystified.
