I too cringed listening to them. I just couldn't believe that with the education these girls received, their speech writer couldnt' come up with something more intelligent sounding. They sounded like airheads. That speechwriter should be fired.

As for the comments regarding their ugliness, I don't think either of them is that attractive & I think the Kerry girls were also wacked with the ugly stick. However, my favorite comment was one made regarding Chelsea Clinton. Someone once wrote that she should have been the poster child for birth control.

That's a cheap shot and a profoundly un-American comment. We do not hold people accountable for the actions of their parents in this country. When a society allows intergenerational accountabilty to have credibility, you get societal devolution like what we saw in the former Yugoslavia.

Neither of them came off as airheads. Jenna did seem trashy (she looked like she dressed to go out for a dozen Jagermeister shots after the speech, and her voice sounds like she's a chain smoker,) but Barbara came off with an air of intelligence, grace and wit.

Twin Terrors - How Bad Were the Bush Girls?

See Article

My favorite excerpt:

Barbara, in particular, seems to have been studying the Campaign Head Tilt at her mother's knee; when Jenna was speaking, Barbara often gave a knockout impression of Laura, who frequently appears as though she's had a run-in with a zealous taxidermist.

hahahahhaha.

I think there's a highly orchestrated effort to make The President seem a little more human -- and I think that both this and Mrs. Bush's speech were a part of it.

I think it's working pretty well.

Standing before thousands of people and hundreds of cameras is pretty daunting, and for the most part, I think they did as well as can be expected for people who have never done it before.

I do think Jenna could use a little fashion consulting.

Oh boy. I just read a R-TV Journalism BBoard I subscribe to, and the twins are getting roundly panned by everyone from top GOP officials to reporters and critics around the country.

Maybe they should lighten up a little. These kids aren't politicians or trained speakers.

It wasn't a great speech, but it is what it is -- a little fresh air among the bluster.

hottytoddy 09-02-2004 09:45 PM

I thought their speech was cute. I think they were trying to speak in a language young people could understand

It would have been boring if they had given the same ol mature conservative speech.

Exactly was DeltAlum said...I little fresh air.

I pray that both of them come into the class and dignity that their mother has, because both are miserable. The sooner the better.

What does that even mean?? They're miserable?

Hey anyone want to see naked pictures of Kerry's daughter? She's a real class act.

Was this the first time they have ever spoken in public? I think so. I don't remember ever even HEARING them speak before in a normal circumstance like saying hello as they came off AF1 or something. If my first time speaking in public was at MSG for the re-election of my father I'd be nervous too! The speech could have been rehearsed more but that's about it. Very cute.

I have named my new computer & shopping cart in their honor. :)
