Just remember, Housing czn be an expensive propsition.
UTenn Murfreesbouro built new house Greek Row, Beautiful Houses. Cost The Greeks a Chunck, most cannot afford Them last I heard. Any updates from those in the know? Houses can be great or a money pit. Just depends I guess! |

People from different GLOs live together, and also many Greeks live with non-greeks (such as me but my roommate is rushing my sorority!) keeping strong relationships outside of the Greek community. There are fraternity and sorority "houses" around the area where we can go to party (However these are REAL houses- you pay rent seperate from dues, there are NO maids or housemoms, etc.) and some greeks attempt to get housing in the same areas although there are no alloted Greek floors or dorms. But some areas of campus are known for having a high population of certain GLOs. All this means that we have no rivalries (although there is one fraternity on campus that NO ONE likes). It also means that the greeks can't dominate campus, which I think is much better and more fair to everyone. We still have all sorts of great events (Greek Week, Homecoming which Greek Life plays a HUGE role in, Greek Dinner, Toga Party, Bar Nights at the school's favorite bar, ETC.) The Greeks are very balanced among the independents. This way whether or not you go Greek you can still enjoy the school to the fullest. And also it makes dues very affordable. :D |

Funny, a few Greeks have Houses at FIT, Fl. They have a strong LXA Chapter there last I heard. No House! PSU Ks all had Houses. We demolished ours last Aug.
The Chapter met at the Student Union even when we had a house. I guess it means an even playing field in some minds. But a House again can be a very expensive proposition. If you do not have enough to fill the house, you still have to pay the Per Bed Cost, or rent, or house payment with the people living in it and other Members if it is not full. The Nut for payment still goes on and so you pay until you go broke?:( Without a strong Chapter, the money pit snake rears its head and gives a bite in the butt! |

we have our socials at bars downtown....they are not permitted at houses. we have dorms on campus, we just dont have sorority floors on dorms. i go to a commuter school, where 85% of us live off campus. Quote:
my school has discussed building greek housing and everyone said no. our school will never be a big "greek" campus. i would like to see it bigger but stronger but it would not work if it dominated. |
i advise a chapter
on a campus with no greek housing(something totally alien to me) and it has been nothing but trouble. having to go thru all the university red tape to reserve rooms, having to have the request in by a certain time, being charged high fines if candle wax drips on anything, hauling ritual things around to rooms, etc. i can't wait for greek housing!!!
