that sounds interesting adpiucf.. thanks for the info!!

You're also definitely right when it comes to the need to have a strong design as well as content.

Well I know for myself that until the website is up and running I can't hazard a guess on the looks of it, but first impressions are important. I think the website we have now is beautiful but the first time I went to it after it change, OMG I got so confused. To me it isn't that user friendly at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new website looks like and what it has to offer.

I think most will like it, and may think I'm nuts for saying it looks dated, but I said the same thing about the new philanthropy logo when it was rolled out.

I think that is what happens when you are working with a non-profit and don't have the budgets of a corporate branding campaign. Although I will say the ADPi re-brand for 150th was dead-on and quite good. The people doing all of this work are, after all, volunteers, and typically don't have a graphics background. We appreciate their volunteerism though-- it keeps things moving and keeps pushing us forward. These programs wouldn't happen at all without them! Design can be refined over time.

Again, just covering myself and praising the tech committee and phil. committee for their time and efforts by saying this is just constructive criticism of someone who has worked in print and online design. IE: For a contrast of what I think IS good design, check out the new UF sorority web sites that have been designed by multimedia companies. Excellent recruitment tools, great design and very appealing. The things you can do when you know what you want and budget for it! :)

How about the first person who thinks they've seen it comes on to GC, checks the ADPi forum, and if nothing's posted there starts a NEW thread in our forum titled "New ADPi website is UP!"

And then it'll be obvious and we won't have six updates per day on this thread. :)

UUMMM... that really is not correct. ADPi hires design firms, marketing firms, and so on when we have a major project. We have contracted with a firm to build the web site. Of course Grand Council took bids first to spend our money most wisely. The ADPi volunteers on the technology committee work with the company we hire to make sure the content we want is on there and test the look & feel as well as usability (and probably a million other little things!).

Why not?!? It is fun and keeps things interesting around here-- I agree whoever finds it first to make a thread for it-- but lets keep up the discussion!! :)

Thanks for clarifying. I am aware that a design firm was employed.

I didn't make the point I wanted to clearly enough. I just felt the graphic design of the new site is lacking, and despite employing "professionals," the client needs to be savvy enough to know some design elements as well. Like I said before, I'm not knocking the volunteers. I just personally don't think its good design.

I'm done commenting on the ADPi web site; as I said, my comments weren't intended to bash any efforts made. I hope everyone will enjoy it once it is online.

Nothing new. Big old sigh.
We're halfway through the month now.

suwhitestl 08-19-2004 12:00 PM

Still the same site.

Anybody know what chapters are going to do that already have new members who are supposed to be doing self-study and quizzes on the new site?

suwhitestl 08-19-2004 12:03 PM

Anybody want to guess what day/time it will be launched?

A website pool with no money involved just the glory of being right!

My guess is September 1, 12:00 noon Eastern time.
