I think it depends on the situation and the child. Some children need a lot of discipline and some don't. I wouldn't spank my child if all that was required was the "look." You know... that squint that says "if you don't stop actin' a fool I'ma beat the $hit out of you right here in this store." However, in order for the "look" to be effective, some a$$ whoopin' has to have happened in the past. It worked for me (spanked twice in my life), but for my brothers it took shoes, extension cords, belts, yard sticks, grounding, etc.

I have an 11 year old and won't hesitate to whoop that a$$...in public, private...I don't care. He's mine and I'll do what the hell I want with him. I also give adult family members (my mom, my dad, my brothers) the okay to loc' up if need be. But "need be" has been discussed beforehand. It does not mean because he is talking and you can't hear the Laker game. It means if he almost gets killed running in the street after you told him to stay his butt inside. I'm old school.

I also think spanking the butt is different than slapping the face. Slapping the face, to me, is way more degrading than tappin' that ass.

I believe in disciplining children and I think that spanking is appropriate. When it is used as an immediate, angry reaction, however, it is not appropriate.

Hell yeah! 100% spanking are effective. I use it to pop my sons butt when he acts up

I was spanked as a child, so were my brothers, my parents too..... It is effective if you use it as a last resort and gets their attention right away and they know you mean business.

Discipline needs to be used on children or else they grow up not knowing boundaries and the consequences of their actions.
My parents were old school so spankings were part of the drill. I knew not to act up because that meant pain pure and simple. All my parents needed to do was give me "the look" and I knew not to act up.

It's funny to watch my cousins use the time outs with their kids. That's because I know that their grandma would have taken matters into her hands.
