I was unhappy that Mrs. Bush came during an election year. However, I doubt that this ploy changed anyone's vote (I KNOW it didn't change mine). However, I thought this was a memorable experience for the young author's. Watching them brought tears (I cried more than once last week) to my eyes. They will never forget that trip.

So, kudos to my sorors for a job well-done. I read the papers the next day and of course it was all about the campaign. However, we know the truth and that's all that matters. We don't have time to worry about people's agenda's. We have a mission sorors!!

My chapter sponsored one of the young authors in the South Atlantic Region, and another student was the runner-up in his grade level for the South Atlantic Region. I am chair of our Young Authors program. It was a LOT of HARD work, but to see the expressions on the faces of the children and their parents was priceless.

For me, the Young Authors presentation was the highlight of the entire conference. Then at the book signing, the dad kept saying he could not believe all of this was happening. I truly believe that this was a life-altering experience for these children, and the fact that we had students of all races and ethnicities on stage is a tribute to the power of this program.

Tea roses to all the sorors who work to improve the lives of others. We have it going on, y'all.

Yes we do and the mission was indeed AKAcomplished! And let's be clear that was a quid pro quo if I ever saw one...good press for our Org. as well to have both Pagie and the First Lady honor our programs in such a big way! BTW Soror your Sig. is killing me..lol I LOVE that crazy movie! :p

Very few appearances (or non-appearances) change anyone's vote.

While I think it's wonderful that the Young Authors recieved such attention, I do not think that being aligned with a political party (especially the Republican part) during an election year is in any way good PR for my Sorority.

AKA2D '91 07-26-2004 01:16 PM

What happened? Did I miss some news?

Has there been any backlash? Has the organization been hurt?
Negative PR? Where? When? (rhetorical questions)

Maybe I'm missing something... So I'm leaving that alone...

Who will be our next speaker in '06. :D ;)

Choo-ChooAKA 07-26-2004 02:37 PM

I'm a devout Democrat, so...

any article (such as the one in this thread) that mentions Laura Bush, George Bush, and AKA in the same paragraph is bad PR, IMO.
