Holy cow D. Lowe won a game. Doesn't hurt that Boston had 14 runs.

derf, gives up six runs . . . zero earned? the earned run rule eats some ass. he sucked; his numbers should reflect this, instead of blaming bellhorn for being pretty awful in the field.

I agree. Unless Lowe gets his act together the only way he will win is by awesome run support like last night.

Maybe it will keep him from bitching to the press.

The way Manny, Ortiz and Damon are hitting, the Sox still scare me, even if they went through a bad stretch. I'd like the Yankees lead to get up into double digits as soon as possible.

The Yankees aren't getting Randy Johnson - they don't have the prospects to make the deal, I'd be VERY surprised if they gave up Navarro, Robinson Cano or the other two or three that they have.

Same thing with the Red Sox - they have a couple of high level prospects, but I'd be very surprised if Epstein made a move when their farm depth isn't tremendous.

The Angels look to me like the most likely option - but Moreno was a part-owner of the Diamondbacks, and didn't leave on good terms; he and Jerry Colangelo don't like each other, and it would take something for Colangelo to deal them a pitcher who could put them over the top.

I don't know, but I've been a tortured Rangers fan since I was 5, and we had season tickets at Arlington Stadium. We're all holding our breath to see if they will hold on after the All Star Break (which in prior seasons, if they weren't already sucking, usually signals the wheels to come of for them).

How does everyone feel about the selections for the all star game and how do you think will win?

I think the selection is pretty fair and I think the AL will win the all star game. I wish I was able to see the game live instead of watching it on TV.

I think, with the addition of the players getting to select some of the All-Stars (in addition to the *fans* and the All-Star manager for each league) makes it a little "more fair". I understand that the fans are all about seeing the "big name" players play in the game, but it leaves other players who aren't as well known out of the festivities (and I'm not just saying this because the Padres's second baseman, Mark Loretta, wasn't elected to the game by the fans). I still don't think the idea behind the game determining who has home field advantage in the World Series is the best idea, and I agree with some sports writers that I've been reading in the paper about with interleague play and such that the All-Star game isn't *as exciting* as in the past, when you never saw the other league until October.

However, I'm hoping that the National league will win, but either way, I'll enjoy watching the game! :)

Some people's opinions are in the "Snubs" thread; it didn't last long so it may have been buried, but a few people sounded off there.

I'd love to see the AL win...but I feel like the NL has the better overall team.

Yeah he did...the AL lineup went through him pretty easily. I was rooting for the AL, but I was also kinda hoping Clemens would have a good outing. I didn't think he was going to get out of the inning though when it got to 6-0.

definitely my favorite line: "and w/ 2 outs in the first, Danny Kolb gets up in the NL bullpen . . . wow" --Tim McCarver

You mean the overpowering Danny Kolb, he of 11 strikeouts ALL SEASON. I also loved Jack McKeon's "Yeah, that really messed up my plans." I would be upset too if I had to bring in Kolb instead of Randy Johnson.

The game was cool, But I did feel sorry for Clemens. But I was surprised that Sariano got the MVP. I was hoping for Dave Ortiz.

polarpi 07-15-2004 03:44 PM

I'm really not that surprised that Clemens got hit hard. Remember, the AL guys are used to seeing him...it's just the NL teams this year are trying to get used to hitting off of him.

Oh well, the AL won the All-Star game last year too.....and it didn't help them ONE BIT :p

steelepike 07-15-2004 05:09 PM

The second Half of the season is gonna be a good one.

The AL wild Card race is gonna be a good one with 9 teams within six games of the spot

plus the AL West is gonna be tight and if one of those teams doesn't get the Wild Card it will be Boston.

Boston most likely won't get the AL East from the Evil Empire but maybe they can get the Wild Card

The NL east is tight with only the Expos out of getting the pennant

The NL west if also tight with three teams going for the Playoff spot

ST. Louis is running away with the NL central but that doesn't mean a slump could hit them and a streak could come upon another team.

The Wild Card will be tough to get this year.

I hope my Braves can get and stay healthy and take a playoff spot.

my early picks

AL East - Evil Empire
AL Central - White Sox
AL West - Oakland
AL Wild Card - Anaheim

NL East - Braves
NL Central - St. Louis
NL West - San Fran
NL Wild Card - LA
