So Rudey, sexism = intelligence? News to me and, I'd place good money on this, that all of a sudden sexism is equal to intelligence and Godliness is news to everyone on GC as well. Remember, if one wants to bring God into it, God puts a lot of faith and responsibility in women. He also expects men to treat women with the same amount of respect that men want to be treated with.

By the way, here's something: keep your discussions at work professional. Next time you won't have these issues. But then again being so busy not knowing how to become a lawyer or how to get a job must keep you really concentrated on your hectic working future where you are a strong woman.

So she should have just said "sorry, but this isn't work related and I won't discuss it" or walked away in the middle of a conversation? I don't think that would win any points either.

You know in the real world if you venture into personal opinions then you better be ready to listen to them. Did he push them on someone? Did he say you are my wife, you will clean my boxers at work? No.

She could concentrate the conversation on something else.

She could say I don't know when people ask something of her and make it known in a more polite manner.

And yes, she could just say "We should concentrate on this work".

And which is better winning points by saying you'd like to concentrate on work right now or by telling someone they're sexist or not accepting their opinion? Neither but I'd still pick number 1 to reduce my risk.

The problem is, at some workplaces if you DON'T relate to your coworkers on a friend level, you don't get anywhere even if you deserve to. I should know, I work at one. I could save 20 clients or save our dept $25,000 a month and I still wouldn't get rewarded for it because I don't choose to follow my boss around like a retarded duckling. Oh, and did I mention that we had a situation with her saying inappropriate comments.

Back to the thread, she's entirely right to be offended by this pig.

She can be offended all she wants but she decided to be a willing participant in the conversation.

It seems you're projecting your job experience and problem onto hers. Yes every job is like that. In every job you have to maneuver. That's not saying only go to work and do work, but it's knowing which conversations to participate in.

Again, I'll ask you, which was better in terms of her "getting anywhere", her saying she should concentrate on work or her flipping out on the guy?

No but if she has been offended by what he has said more then once she needs to voice her opinion and let him know that it isn't appropriate dicussion for the work place because she is offended by it.

I would say trying to avoid any conversation whatsoever. In this situation she is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't...if you DO say you want to concentrate on work or something similar, you're implicitly saying that the other people conversing aren't doing so and that makes EVERYONE pissed at you.

You're right, I am projecting. I wish I could "project" my boss's ass out of the state but I don't have time/space power yet. :)
