No silly:) I've seen a head shot of you, but from that, you look pretty thin.
Pleated minis only look good on people who ARE pretty thin. Therefore you would look good in a pleated mini. (Substitution) I can't believe I just used geometry and clothing in the same sentence. God bless GC and all it stands for. :p |

Listen to your feelings . . .
Wildcatt,
After rereading your original post, may I suggest that if you are wondering -- even slightly -- whether someone might "look down" on you for something you're wearing at KSU recruitment --- choose something different! This really doesn't have to do with what the sorority members might or might not think. It's a matter of you feeling good and comfortable so that you can relax and shine. Put it this way -- rush can be a little stressful or even overwhelming sometimes. You'll be part of a bunch of around 550-600 women going through. Besides meeting new people, you may have to deal with brutal Kansas August heat -- if it's 103 in the shade and you're walking in a group from, say, Gamma Phi Beta to Pi Beta Phi to Alpha Chi Omega to Sigma Kappa, those couple or three blocks can seem like a looooong way. On top of everything else, do you need to be wondering in the back of your mind, "is this skirt all right?" Listen to your feelings and choose what you can feel comfortable and confident with. Again, best wishes. |
great advice exlurker!! and lol at the paris hilton inference!

I think a pleated mini and a pleated denim skirt are two different things. I would not stuff my body into a pleated mini unless it was a matter of life or death, but right now I'm wearing a pleated denim skirt from GAP that hits just above the knee, and I think that would be fine for a casual day of rush.

how about jean capris????

Wildcatt~~ follow all the advice everyone's been giving. don't go TOO trendy- aka do NOT go for the Forever 21 look/Mean Girls movie look because it just screams "hi i'm in HS!" (i see all the new freshman at orientation this summer looking like they walked off the Mean Girls set and honestly they look ridiculous) Dress in someting that is YOU but something that is more timeless but will stand out at the same time. a denim skirt is a pretty classic wardrobe staple. honestly I think capris are a bad choice for several reasons. they're too informal and (coming from an aspiring fashion designer) they're unflattering on most people. Capri's cut off the visual line and make alot of girls look like their legs are shorter/chunkier than they really are. For preferences, wear something that you could wear out to a nice restaurant if you were meeting someone important. Basically a simple tea length dress (right below or above the knee) that is either a plain color or print is something I would reccomend no matter where in the country you will be rushing. |
Like it has been said before, if you have your eye on a house that looks like it has very fashion-conscious members and is trendy on the whole, a mini is great - if you can pull it off and not worry about flashing people the whole time.
That being said, if you don't really know who you want to join, i would stick with more classic looks with trendy accessories that flatter your style but at the same time not get in the way of how you want to present yourself. Like, it's fantastic to wear something that will make sisters go "Oh, yeah, she was the one with the big pink stone earrings" rather than "Oh my god, those flowers in her hair were shedding all over the couch!" |
