Canadian Greeks

The Canadian Greeks page has been wonderful! Please check http://www.canadiangreeks.com/directory/ to see if the information they have for your fraternity/sorority is right. I know there is at least one difference. They don't have the ADPi BC Vancouver Alumni Assoc...

AEPi is active at 11 Canadian schools:

University of Western Ontario

York University
University of British Columbia
University of Waterloo
University of Ottawa
Ryerson University
Dalhouse University
Queens University
McGill University
University of Guelph

We used to be at the University of Manitoba but that chapter is inactive.

Interesting that this comes up.

Constutionally, LXA is prohibited from expanding outside of the US & Canda.

There is legislation that is being proposed this summer at our convention that would allow for expansion outside the US and Canada.

Not that we have any groups outside the US & Canada looking for recognition, but our legislative convention only meets every other year and if in say, December a group at Monterrey Tech in Mexico (Which is the largest good school close to the border in Mexico) wanted to expand, our hands would be tied.

I think its a good thing.

Are you sure you have a chapter at Queen's? They banned GLOs a long time ago.

Yes. The chapter was Kappa Theta and was recently founded. It has no website.

Don't see anything about that in Canadiangreeks.com

This is what they have:

http://www.canadiangreeks.com/directory/aepi.html

No mention of a colony either.

ETA: OK, checked the AEPi website and Queen's is listed. My question is this: How on EARTH did the fraternity get around presenting and colonizing at the school? Their anti-GLOness is probably the worst in Canada.

I don't care much for outside websites. They have a couple errors outside of that about AEPi on there. Anyway, the 10 chapters I listed for AEPi are active.

Fraternities are not like sororities - some are very bureaucratic and do go around presenting to school administration, but many don't. We made the choice and followed through with the decision to expand at that school if there was enough interest. Hopefully we will be an asset to the school as well as the members that were interested in joining us. :)

So you're saying that the Queen's chapter may very well be "underground". Well, maybe you're actually doing some good. There hasn't been Greek Life at the school since 1914!

No I'm saying that it's there, I don't know whether the administration approves, but we'd be there regardless.

"Underground" generally has bad connotations. A chapter is said to go underground when their charter is pulled or they are specifically banned by either their national or their school for doing something bad. I've seen chapters like that.

Canadiangreeks.com

Just a thought - If you see errors on Canadiangreeks.com then let neonpi know. She help start the web site and can pass on the information to web master. A web site is only as current as the information is provided. :)

Queen's University policy is officially no Greek life. This group is not sanctioned by the univeristy nor the student union. I know AEPi was warned by other groups who attempted going on about going in there, so how visible on campus it appears remains to be seen (excuse the pun). (Example: - Acadia U told the potential Zeta Psi colonizers that any student that joined their organization would be expelled - guess what happened to that colonization?).

In this case, AEPI @ Queen's is like what DU was like at U of Victoria - not sanctioned or approved by uni or s.u. They do exist but there is no support whatsoever .. I hope AEPI holds their own at Queen's, but it won't be easy.

If there are updates for your Greek group, just email the webmaster at webmaster@canadiangreeks.com, and Chantal will update CGG no problem!

Cheers,
Shala

Just Curious...
Phi Alpha Delta (a GLO classed as Professional as opposed to Social) Law Fraternity has a chapter in Mexico. I imagine several other PFA (Professional Fraternity Assoc.) fraternities may well have, too.

I don't know of any NIC fraternities that have expanded there, one way or other though.

I understand that the school doesn't sanction or approve them, but they're there and will be there as long as interest holds. If I get time I will send an email with updates. Good luck to all the Canadian Greeks!
