maybe this was already answered, (but to be honest I just scrooooolled down to the bottom to post a reply!), but do you know if other sorority chapters on your campus use preference letters?

Yep 3 of the 5 houses use the letters and each PM gets one from her hostess. Some get more than one if others write an extra letter. This is highly discouraged, but some slip through. So regardless of where she is on the list she will get a letter. Maybe OK if you go to the bottom of your list, we fortunately haven't seen the bottom of our list in a very long time.
Just to be clear the PNM's do return the letters at the end into the wishing well before they leave the party. I suspect that another year of this and our women will change their vote on the matter or Panhel will push harder to get rid of the letters this next year. The other 2 chapters that use the letters are not even considering voting to ban the letters. The Greek Advisor is talking of sending notes to all the NPC area delegates to get their support and help advise the collegians to vote in favor of compliance. As of yet, I do not believe she has contacted the delegates. For those of you who have used the letters and knowing the time crunch we are under just imagine how this is going to be a very stressful process to get through proofing all the letters before preference. We are discussing the logistics this weekend to try and figure out the best way to do it without losing the personal touch the letters have historically had. It is going to be a long Labor Day Weekend! |

What I was implying is not that some PNMs did not receive poems or letters at pref night, but sometimes more effort is put into some letters/poems more than others (ie like polarpi'd CA connection, being on the same sports team, etc ). There are instances when the chapter wants PNM A more than PNM B so PNM A might get more attention. If the poems are carbon copies then there is no problem but in such cases when they are not exact copies, someone might feel like their poem wasnt as good as someone else's and think well if the chapter wanted me that badly my poem would have been cool too. That's when problems arise. |
Hello lovely sisters of ADPi. I was perusing this forum and came upon this thread...
After consulting with my copy of the Green Book, the 1991 resolution was just that... a resolution. The big no-no's, like no men during recruitment, etc. (and I use that term very loosely) NPC rules are "unanimous agreements". While it discourages it, we all know that there are campuses out there that still have very "frilly" recruitment. Hope that helps! Just an FYI honey - I led a revolt with one of my collegiate VPR's to quit writing these letters but I was outvoted last semester and they have since returned. I know Chi-Omega does them as well, not sure about anyone else. We do take them back before the women leave but PNM have been known to steal them! |
