Is it true the red cross sells our donated blood over seas?

A+

PLEASE don't just assume that! My brother & I are different types; he's A- and I'm A+. He needed a transfusion recently, and I couldn't help him. :(

You're right. Daddy Munch is one type, but Uncle Munch is another--in fact, his is one of the rarest. Basically, one of my grandparents was AO, and the other was BO. Therefore, some of the siblings are AB, others are O.

O positive. However, I'm barred from donating blood since I spent time overseas in Europe, where there might be the remote chance of possibly getting mad cow disease.

Another needle hater here. I don't even want to let them do a blood test at the doctors.

(Don't ask me to explain my pierced ears and the 2 tattoos:p )

I understand. It is totally different to have a hole punched in you than to have a needle sucking blood out of you. The one time I gave blood, the person doing it apparently did it wrong because it hurt like hell... to the point where I was crying uncontrollably. They took the needle out once they realized that I was in pain, but I don't think I can ever give blood again because of that one bad experience. Luckily, I'm quite a bleeder, so I managed to give them just enough blood in the short time that the needle was in my arm!

HBADPi 05-28-2004 09:39 PM

I cant remember but I'm either AB+ or AB-...I know I'm in the minority eitherway

DolphinChicaDDD 05-28-2004 10:45 PM

I'm O+

And now here is some useless info from your resident biologist :)
Certian blood types have certian antigens, making you more susceptiable to certian diseases.

A: You are likely to get viruses, such as: sphyllis, smallpox, bronchial pnemounia, and Rhemetic heart disease

B:You are more likely to get bacterial infections like: the flu, infantile diarrehia(cased byE.coli ), thyphoid fever, and scarlet fever

O: The radoms, more likely to get: Bubonic plauge, chlorea, and parathyphoid

This has been your useless fact of the day...enjoy!:)

O+ and I've given blood twice, but my natural body temp's just thismuch to high to give so I either have to cheat the thermometer or not give....but I've been told not to give again both times I gave...the first time caz it took 20 min and I was too slow, the second because it took 4 min. and I almost passed out...

swissmiss04 05-29-2004 04:46 PM

I can't give blood, so I've never been able to figure out my type. I think, however, that both my parents are AB+. I'm pretty sure, anyways. Is there a way to get your type w/o losing a pint in the process?

Roseblum15 05-29-2004 04:50 PM

AB+, I suppose I should donate blood more often, but I've just recently cleared the 1 yr. rule since I got my navel pierced. It seems that whenever I am "safe" to danate I end up getting another piercing or tattoo.

Lady Pi Phi 05-29-2004 05:37 PM

I have no idea what my blood type is.

I also can't donate blood because I am a diabetic and in Canada diabetics are barred from donating blood.

sageofages 05-29-2004 08:25 PM

I am O+, Mr Sageofages is AB+, we have 3 biological children :).

A+, B+ and O+ ....go figure :).

The blood bank called recently to ask Mr Sageofages to donate blood. He responded "I am sorry I can not donate, I am in a high risk group" and hung up the phone. Whereupon I said "what the F*ck do you mean HIGH RISK group? Is there something I should know?" He looked me *without* blinking..."I am in a high risk group...*afraid* of needles"

geez...I did throw the sofa pillow at him.

Xylochick216 05-29-2004 09:17 PM

O+

I usually have trouble because I'm always anemic, but sometimes my blood sinks in the test like it's supposed to. I'm always borderline! I still can't give because of my time overseas, but hopefully soon I can give.

BirthaBlue4 05-29-2004 09:17 PM

o pos

I get semi-weak when they take a sample, so I dunno about giving.
