Thanks for posting this CT4. A lot of times I skip over the "new" authors but this time I didn't. The book was an easy read, with a good "lesson". It was a refreshing change from the latest offerings of sex and ghetto-themed books that are being passed off as "Black Literature".

I do agree with you.
Here's an article on black "chick-lit." It's not heavy literature, but it's fun reading:

Sunday Brunch by Norma L. Jarrett (fall 1986 line of Alpha Phi Chapter). BTB, do you know her?

No, CT, I don't know her. Didn't see her in my '84 yearbook, can't find my '85 yearbook. :(

Yeah I finished it last weekend and was glad at the ending. My favorite character was Capri. I want an ANTHONY. :D

Another Bebe Moore Campbell book that's often overlooked but bought me close to tears is Sweet Summer, in it she describes her relationship with her Dad and has some poignant memories of her childhood! It was an excellent read, I have to get my own copy of this some day.

I'm reading a book called "Going Buck Wild" by Nina Foxx.

I purchased this from Soror at Boulé, but haven't started reading yet. Let me know what you think.

I sat in a workshop on how to become a published author with Soror Reshonda and other sorors who are authors or booksellers. The workshop was EXCELLENT. I actually came away with ideas on how I can finally get my fiction writing into gear. Journalism is great, but at some point, a girl wants to do other things.

:)

I read it on the way home and I liked it. I was expecting a different story line given that this is a particularly "hot topic". I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the turns in the story line.

I hope you are enjoying the book.

I predicted that about the son. I'm on chapter 15.

Has anyone read Maya Angelou's cookbook? I saw the interview she did on Oprah about it. Each recipe is based on a personal story. I am thinking about getting it.

I just finished reading a book by our Soror Denise Michelle Harris called Sweet-bye-bye it was excellent and the character underwent a significant change in her personality from the beginning of the book, that's all I tell for now;)

Lyrical Essence

Soror Marla L. Brandon, born in Pittsburgh, Pa. wrote a book of poetry called, "Lyrical Essence." The book also includes a spoken word recording. The book is fabulous!!

My favorite poems in the book are: Oprah Woman and Teardrops. The book is deep and you will be suprised to find out how much you can relate to her. ;)
