Don't own a gun, never shot a gun. My dad and brother hunt (i have absolutely no idea what the thrill is of freezing your ass off in the woods sitting there doing nothing is, but whatever), so we always had rifles in the house. Don't think there's a handgun... not sure, don't care to know.

Just a friendly reminder for all of you gun owners- WEAR EAR PROTECTION as much as you possibly can. In my new job, i've been dealing with a lot of workers comp hearing loss cases, reading a lot of doctor's depositions, and use of guns can really cause damage to your ears!

Yes it is! I did not beleive it when someone from ex Milintary Int. told me that and two weeks later it came out in the news of the computors of listening stations all over the world!

Showed the Computor that monitoried Key Words and hit on them! Those sites, and phone Numbers were then monitered.

Big Bro at its best!

You didn't see me list what I have, or have access to, did you? :D Although, my handguns are registered, since I can legally conceal them.

AlethiaSi 05-25-2004 11:43 PM

since i live in the boondocks- my mom's boyfriend has a ruger rifle .22 and a deer rifle thingy..idk what its called lol- (we have LOTS of deer here along with crazy animals) i think he's only shot it a few times for deer that got hit on the road to put them out of their misery :( its so sad- i don't like guns at all but my best friend (a pi kappa phi) who's in the army (just came back from afghanistan a little banged up but safe and sound:) ) is really into me knowing how to shoot a gun and take self-defence classes- so he took me out in our woods a few days ago and i learned how to shoot a rifle- it was good practice and i'm not so scared of them so i guess thats good

swissmiss04 05-25-2004 11:58 PM

Mom tried to get me to take some classes and then buy a pistol. That freaked me out. If I were ever in a situation where I absolutely had to own one (live by myself, no kids, etc) I would own one. For no other reason would I.
I do support gun owner rights, though. In some countries, banning guns works. Not here. It's too ingrained in our culture to change the rules now. Besides, if you outlaw guns, the only people who have them will be the criminals.

Worth repeating - but most firing ranges require them anymore.

If enough people want to hear a funny story about my brother who lives in the country, I'll tell it - tomorrow.

I've always wanted to get into guns a little bit. Here in Oklahoma, we are able to apply for a license to carry a concealed weapon on us. I just think that'd be kind of cool to know that I could always be "packing".

I'll probably never go through with that though.

GeekyPenguin 05-26-2004 11:43 AM

My family owns several weapons and one of my high school boyfriends was very into shooting. At some point, I will probably get one of my own, however, I will register it. If you're not going to do anything wrong with the gun, why does it matter who knows that you have it?

aurora_borealis 05-26-2004 12:07 PM

I learned all about guns to earn a badge when I was in Girl Scouts. I was given a gift membership to the NRA by a former boyfriend. I attended the NCAA rifle championship University of Alaska Fairbanks (I believe it is 6 years running of taking the NCAA with a co-ed team), and took pistol and rifle marksmanship classes for my PE credits (also bowling, billiards, golf, and country line dancing). Shooting skeet is entertainment as well.

Not too many gun accidents in Alaska by locals, most are by not too bright tourists. Guns are a way of life there. I wouldn't ever go camping without a 45, not that those always stop a grizzly or a moose. On campus at UAA, the campus officers have used their guns more often to kill moose than to apprehend perps. Crazy critters.

I probably won't own one unless I move back to Alaska. The only time some crazy tried to break in through my window, I smacked him on the hand with a shoe and called the cops. If you live on the ground floor or with an accessible window, extra locks and perhaps an iron bar are a must. My roommate learned after that night to not sleep with the window open, and naked.

valkyrie 05-26-2004 04:05 PM

I would never own a gun and would never date anyone who had a gun. Nobody in my family owns a gun.

There is nothing good you can do with a gun -- protect yourself, maybe, but that's it.

Did Earp just tell us he has lots of unregistered guns at his house and he is aware that the government can find him through his "computor"? Just curious.

Yes, I grew up around shotguns and hunting rifles. My grand dad gave me a very nice pair of AYA 12 bore side by side shotguns for my 21st birthday. I have an old JC Higgins .22 bolt action that I learned to shoot with and I have my old 20 bore break open single that I used in high school. Also, I have a Walther .380 and a Ruger .22 pistol I keep locked up in my bedroom. For home protection I have an old Remmington 12 bore pump gun with solid slug rounds and 00 Buck shot as the ready ammo. Also, I have a small collection of original and reproduction black powder revolvers and a black powder shotgun. My Dad has a fine collection as do my Graqnd Dad and my Uncles. Guns are not a preoccupation but we enjoy target shooting and appreciate good workmanship.

Tom Earp 05-26-2004 06:02 PM

Well, actually they are not at my abode.!:)

I am not sure, but I was one of the first to tell you about the super computer that I laughed at untill some friends of MIT and CIA told me about it.

Da, it came out two weeks later!:( Print and TV Media.!

Ask the Lawyer from Kansas who lives in Washington, St.:(
