All I can say is that when I heard the news for some reason I was not all that shocked. I have been so desensitized by this celebrity doing this wrong and this celebrity doing another thing wrong that it doesn't even faze me any more. I mean after Bill Cosby, I guess even good ole "Rev" Jackson was not a shock. I am just upset that he of all people would go out and smack in the face everything he "supposedly" stood for. Things like the upliftment of the black community and family and high moral and ethical standards. Hypocrite doesn't even begin to decribe him.

I did post this once, not sure where it went...

FOLKS - SLOW DOWN AND THINK ABOUT WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON!!!!!!!!!1

Bear with me for minute .... I just figured something out at work with 2 close co-workers .... I know we are all mad at Jesse for his stupid actions, but guess what this is a ploy to get 'US' to stop thinking about what Bush and his people are planning/doing for inauguration (JAN 20)...not saying they are doing anything special but you know how we have all been watching to see who bush, actually who his people, pick to be in his cabinet... well guess what they have finally gotten the spot light off him. We have a right to be mad at Jesse but we need to stay focused on what is important right now ...so we all know Jesse had an affair and he has a child, but we need to stay focused on the what our next so called president of the US is up to. Lets get our priorities straight, and I am not saying he is not wrong, but we need to be careful where we stress our energies this weekend!!! Hope you all understand, and this scandal as with the Pres Clinton one, is not really our business - well it is because he is a public figure, but he and his wife now need to work this through, and I am pretty sure she knew about this, IF 10,000 was leaving my account monthly I think I would know where is was going!!!!

mccoyred 01-18-2001 02:49 PM

I was thinking THE SAME EXACT THING when I read the CNN article. This article http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/01/18/jac....ap/index.html refers to the timing of the announcement in an obvious way.

I saw it on CNN this morning. I didn't know if I wanted to commend him for being a man an admiting it, or to slap him for being so open about private business.

TempleAlum1993 01-18-2001 03:24 PM

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

LadyAKA I hear where you are coming from. I am not condoning the actions nor defending Jesse Jackson. He has to answer to GOD and his family on this.

BUT....if any of you are old enough, you will remember all the smoke and mirrors that occurred when Clarence Thomas was nominated. WE (Read Black Folk) were all up in arms and all the while there were a number of confirmations being passed right on by "unnoticed".

If you haven't done so yet, I implore each of you to email your respective US Senators and give them you views on the Ashcroft hearings.

I mean with all the "Jesse" news, we CANNOT afford to look the other way while the confirmation hearings are going on.

My first thought was not one of shock at all. Rumors have been flying for years. I don't agree with his adulterous actions nor do I support them.

Immediately, my second thought was that this is all a ploy to divert the public eye (esp. African American) from the nomination hearings! The timing was too perfect. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Many, many people will take the moral high ground on this one and totally lose respect for this 'man'. I personally may not respect his morals when it comes to the sanctity of marriage and family; however, I have to, HAVE TO respect his politics. The work that he's done for our community as well as on an international level where OTHERS have completely failed has been phenomenal.

Yeah, but would he have admitted to this if he would not have found out about the expose' by that magazine? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

Monique 01-18-2001 05:22 PM

Well, there not much I can say about this issue..yall said it all..but the only thing i can say is its funny when this all came out ..also poplife i agree with u 110%...Last thing i wannna say is that Jesse or anyone else has never been Monique's leader...Only his Lord Jesus Christ is my leader..why must we as a race ALWAYSSSS have to have someone as our leader?

AKAtude 01-18-2001 05:54 PM

I think I said earlier that the media gives people these labels. I speak for myself, thank you. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

My momma always said never put your faith in man! I don't.

Yes, Jesse has done some great things, and I'm not knocking him for all the good he has done. Yes, I think this should be a private matter for him and his family to deal with. However, as a public figure the media decides this to be newsworthy.

The timing of the whole thing is ironic, but with something like this it is like waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm surprised its been kept quite this long, especially since the Clinton sex scandal.

You don't believe in role models? Anyway, that's your believe...BUT, speaking for myself, my role models have been those who I can touch, see, speak to on a daily basis, etc.

My role models have been/are:
MY MOTHER
MY LATE FATHER
MY AUNTS
MY former TEACHERS
FRIENDS of my Family
MY Grandmother

I couldn't agree with you more! The only role model that I've ever had in my life was my mom. She was the one who put a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food in my stomach not some celebrity or public figure.I learned a long time ago not to put faith in any man. After working in my profession for so many months, nothing surprises me anymore as far as people's moral capabilities I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD IT ALL! Needless to say I was surprised at the news I heard today regarging Mr. Jackson but it didn't fade me.

This also takes me back to the post AKATUDE made under the thread "When Will They Learn". You can't keep things like this from the public nowadays I mean people are constantly out there searching for dirt and believe me if it's there they will find it! What you do in darkness shall be revealed in the light. People, especially those in the public eye need to be more careful and responsible for their actions and choices they make.

Lastly , does anyone know anything about the affair that Micheal Jordan supposedly had with singer Vanessa Williams before she was married to Rick Foxx. I heard about it maybe a year and a half ago on a radio station but I could never find out if it was only arumor or if it really did happen. If so it only proves what I and other have previously stated nothing can be kept secret for long eventually things will come out!!!

I had heard that too. I also heard that she had something going on with Brian McKnight when he first came out...you know she supposedly "discovered" him, she had given him his first exposure on a BET special back in the day.... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

I agree with all who noticed the timing issue. We cannot afford to lose sight of the bigger picture.

Jesse was planning all sorts of boycotts and the likes in protest of the things going on with Bush's cabinet appointees not to mention the way he won the election.

It's an age old tactic...divide and conqure. If the media puts enough spin on it to ruin Jesse in the eyes of the black community, they won't have anything else to worry about. Think about it... who will step up after he's gone? We already are at a shortage of leadership as it is. We have a lot of talkers and the likes but talk is cheap. Who will actually go and do the things that Jesse has done?

Eclipse 01-18-2001 08:47 PM

So many things to say....so little time!!

There are several comments that I really agree with, but will refrain from just co-signing. I have one question though, that I haven't seen addressed:

I heard that Jesse is paying the mother $10,000 a MONTH http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif for child support/hush money/whatevah. What I want to know is: What do Jesse do??? (ebonics!!) I mean that is some serious cash and you KNOW Miss Jackie was not going to let her lifestyle go down that much just to support his little side piece. Has Jesse ever had a job? You know, a regular 9/5 with benefits and such?

The Original Ape 01-18-2001 10:07 PM

I would like to suggest some things to all of you; but before I do, think about these statements first:

1)I agree with the person that stated she's tired of the excuse that men will be men.
2)I agree with the statement that women would be looked upon as dogs if they were to do the same thing.

Now consider this:

Who knows the status of Jesse's marriage? Who knows the motivations of the woman that mothered his newborn? Even if it's true, who stood to gain from Jesse's defamation, and what did they stand to gain? Consider the timing of this gettin' out.

We as African-Americans have to remind ourselves that character assasination is usually the first step taken by our enemies to remove our leaders. Once we judge this person as morally inept, we castrate that person from our causes. When that happens, we are leaderless, and lose any progress toward uniting ourselves. Think about it. Every leader we've had in this country experienced the same things during their most active times. I know that most of yall aint tryin' to hear it, so I'll stop here.

Just remember; all that glitters aint gold.
