Mine arrived in northeasternmost Illinois yesterday.
I do wish the Q had more substance. I like the features--this time, on "adventurous Alpha Gams." But they could go further. For example, in the previous issue about housing I would have liked to read about "the cost of a new house is $x per square foot," "x% of chapter houses were built between 1920 and 1939, etc." "current concerns in housing are upgrading wiring to allow internet access," "did you know that the Fraternity has a housing corporation whose purpose is...?" I would not mind a plug for "and here's how you can ensure that Alpha Gamma Delta provides competitive housing for its chapters." I know the Q is a public relations piece for the world, but it's also the chief means of communication with the majority of alumnae. Presenting thorns as well as petals, not in a gloom-and-doom but to say "here are the challenges." (And "here's how we're meeting the challenges.") |
I still haven't received mine yet, but it seems like everyone else's is lagging too. I'm sure mine will take even longer because it will have to be forwarded.
Nann, I agree with you that the Quarterly could be a little more substantive. Our alumnae are a wonderful resource, but they can't help if they don't know what the challenges are. In the Q's defense though, I think it has become much more substantive within the last year. Our new editor is doing a fabulous job...I see no reason why the Quarterly won't continue to improve. :) |
