BrotherFriend checking in.....

Well I am aspiring musician/recording artist. I dont want to work for a Fortune 500...nor do I necessarily want to own one..but my ultimate dream is to own a company that controls all the aspects of music for my company..let me explain

I want to own:

1.the record label that makes the music

2.the distribution company the mass produces the music

3. The radio station that plays the music

4. the record store that sells the music

Even if I did this on a local level I would be satisfied.

My grad work is in university administration, so therefore, that's where my career interest lies. Lord willing, I will become a vp student affairs at a mid-size private university.

that's going to take a lot of money...unless you learn to "you know what" rig some things...so i wish you the best...you may want to pick up "this business of music"...i forget who the authors are but it covers everything from copyrights to international deals and i think it is a definite must have so that you get a good grasp of the business side as well as the artist side so that you are proficient in both...

I am a former teacher who now works for one of the biggest computer companies in the world. Yea, I make more money here than I did teaching, but( there is always a but) I am just a small (very small) fish in a big pond. I am no where near Supa-Dupa!

I am an Environmental Science major and I have always had internships for these big entities:
USDA, General Electric and now a National Laboratory (as the saying is here: this is where the govt. does it's science). The first summer i taught, next I worked in Env Health & Safety and now I work as an env chemist in a laboratory. These people make a lot of money but right now I don't like any of the jobs I have had except for the first. When working for the USDA I taught Environmental Education in inner city parks in Atlanta. I loved it. I am trying to figure out now what I wanna do with my degree. I am not even concerned about the money. I think that I was born to teach and help children but with my major I don't quite know how to make the switch. Although I have the opportunity to work for corporate America I think I want to trade it all in and be a science teacher. I would rather do something I love for the rest of my life and make not as much money than do something I don't enjoy and be wealthy and unhappy.

No, You're not alone!! I feel like as long as you are going to school and pursuing the career that will make you happy (inside and out), it doesn't matter if you eventually work in Corporate America or for a Non-Profit Org.--as long as you remember to help others.

A great person (I forgot who it was, LOL), said that "most of us will never do great things but we can all do small things in a great way". I live by that.

BTW, Poplife, amy I e-mail you?

No corporate America for me. I'll be having none of that. Nothing against anyone who takes that route, I just can't be proud of making some 60-somethings year old rich white dudes company prosper. I am studying psychology and plan on going to medical school to become a psychiatrist. I want to own a private practice. I've wanted to act since I was about 3 years old, which I currently do. Depending on what I want to do more after undergrad, I may go to Cali to pursue acting as a career. Right now it's a side thing. I've studied theatre since 1992. That's my biggest love. Sad but true, people get tired of your face after a while so I'll be able to practice psychiatry long after people decide they've had enough of me.

I graduated two years ago, and have done the corporate thing since then. I HATE it. This sister is going to teach!!!!!! It sounds like such a cliche, but I don't feel that I'm contributing anything to the world by sitting in an office at a computer all day. I think it depends on the individual, but I don't find it personally satisfying.

meeks 08-08-2001 03:49 PM

Much love to all the social workers out there my mom is a social worker at the Family Independence Agency.!!!!! Now that is a job that is stressfull (and believe me my sisters and i caught the brunt of it when we were little) but after all this time she is still helping people!

oh yeah...any musicians out there please hit me up...I am not sure if I want to start trumpet lessons or piano lessons. I am a fluent clarinet player already (since age 9). if anyone playes either of these two instruments email me i am interested!
