Yay, the return of the rush thread! :D Can't wait for more stories to get addicted to!
|
My cousin will be attending University of Pennsylvania (in philly- not to be confused with penn state) She hasn't made up her mind whether or not to Rush and I really don' t know much about the system at Penn. She is a KKG legacy.

also, if said alumna is a relative, wouldnt there be a bias? on a related note? are nieces/nephews and cousins considered legacies? (im sure this had been covered b4, so perhaps i can be redirected?) |

For many sororities, a rec is simply their way of saying, "Please extend this woman every courtesy." It is NOT a guarantee of any sort!! While this differs from school to school, NOT having at least one rec to every sorority on campus for some schools is virtually cutting yourself from just about all of them. A legacy (for the most part) is a sister, daughter, or granddaughter of an alumna. Many chapters are now factoring step-relations into this equation. Nieces, nephews, and cousins are not technical legacies, but are usually accorded similar respect. ETA: The above link is a list of alumnae who are willing to meet with Potential New Members, so that they can write a rec for them. That's just in case the PNM doesn't know someone personally. |
One of my friends from work may be going through recrutiment at UCF this fall. It should be interesting because i'm planning on assiting ADPi there. I've already explained to her that as an alum I have no say in the process, all I can do is write her a rec. I've been a regular recruitment educator at work, i've had alot of girls asking me questions this year.

my cousin will be rushing at my alma mater (ohhh i've waited 4 long years to call it that ;)) but our rush is deferred - so i'll keep you updated on whate she thinks of and after 19 party in november and where she goes after winter break in january!
I have another cousin going to school somewhere in Michigan... i'll have to find out what school it is though! |
i understand that a rec is not a guarantee. would a sister tell a PNM that she didnt want to write a rec, or write a not-so-stellar one?
i'd imagine the rec required from a member, in terms of NPHC, is different... any1 want to throw an answer in (unless that in itself is TMI)? |
oh, and my other cousin will be attending Barnard in NYC. I seriously know nothing about thier system. She is also a KKG legacy.

My favorite baby cuz will be rushing this fall!! :D
She is a legacy to AXiD through our grandma(and also 2 of our aunts!), KKG through her mother(my mom, her aunt is also one I dunno if that helps tho), and of course I will be pulling for her if she wants to go DG! So I think she will have a great rush! |
I got a letter from the Membership Chairman at Ole Miss. Bid Day is Sept. 27. I think that's a couple of weeks earlier than last year. Maybe they're inching their way back up to a more reasonable time for recruitment!

3 of my cousins are all going to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It's a funny thing with my family since they're all the same age--but none of them are siblings:) 1 is a guy and 2 are girls. I don't think any of them have decided completely on whether or not they'll rush. I have a feeling one of the girls will--not so sure about the other 2...but I'm crossing my fingers. None of them are legacies (since the only one with a greek sibling is one of the girls--and it's her brother who's greek). Kinda hoping one of them will go DG; but I'm not forcing the issue with them.
*Keeping my fingers crossed they'll all go through* |
I love rush threads! One more year until my sisters goes to college!
|
Ok I'm letting my secret out...I plan on rushing NPC Sororities when i transfer...I was in a local but with some personal probelms with myself and between sisters i have moved back home and i have decided to go through rush when i go to my new school. I am sooooo excited!
(if really curious to know what happend read my thread...sisters not being sisters:my story.) |
