The lions trading down one spot was wierd considering they probably wanted Roy Williams anyway. I wonder if they'll trade down and grab Steven Jackson or stay and grab Williams now.

tinydancer 04-24-2004 01:59 PM

Yep, Lions took Roy Williams!!

mrblonde 04-24-2004 02:03 PM

I'm not saying hes a primadonna. But those fans in attendance at the draft werent booing him because hey didnt like his suit (truthfully, Roy Williams' suit was sweet)

Its not so weird for the Lions to trade down as for the Browns to trade up. Like you said, TH, theyd probably have taken Williams anyway, so why give up your 2nd round pick next year?

Thrillhouse 04-24-2004 02:45 PM

It was pretty funny how they must have fooled Cleveland into thinking they were going to take Winslow Jr. I was surprised to see Evans go this high, I thought he'd be a lower first round choice. Evans has talent and is fast though.

I'm thrilled the Bears got Harris. He looks like a good one.

He was a steal.

His college stats would have been a lot higher if it weren't for the Sooners' D-line rotation.

KTSnake, I agree. I think Harris's speed and agility will be a tremendous addition to the defense. Now, if they manage to sign him before training camp, I'll actually use my season tickets more than twice a year!

mrblonde 04-24-2004 03:31 PM

Why was Harris taken so low? Did he have a bad combine workout?

And why is Udeze still on the board? Wasnt he supposed to go top 10?

chitownxo 04-24-2004 03:42 PM

Vikings just picked Udeza (guess they learned how to tell time this year). Didn't Udeze have an injury?

One of the knocks on Harris is that his numbers weren't incredible (maybe 40 tackles), but I think that has more to do with the system he played in. I'm glad he slipped to 14.

i never figured out why they even do the drafts. it should be a free for all type of recruiting, like what the colleges/universities do. you have a salary cap and spend it on whoever you want. if your not selected, too bad. if you get picked and don't like that team and decide to turn them down, then i will see you at mcdonalds.

Teams chose to address other needs. Tommie was the first d-lineman taken in the draft.

Congrats to Eli getting the team he wanted.

WTF did the Texans just do?

Traded the rest of their picks for Babin? All they have left is a 5th round choice?

I do like the pick, but i don't know about trading the farm for a guy i think they could have gotten with their 2nd round pick.

ETA: we have a 4th round too.

but i really can't understand the Broncos passing on Stephen Jackson. I know that Shanahan has had luck with sleeper backs, but i don't see this RB class as that deep.

Well, this DG Alum supports Eli. If for no other reason that his Mom and I are both Anchor Girls!!
The draft benefits one group of people. The 32 franchise owners. His Dad is well aware of this, and the Chargers ownership has not demonstrated a dedication to winning. Plus Schottenheimer and his offensive staff are not the best fit with Eli.

The draft serves a purpose but let me ask this: If you graduate from Medical School, do you then send in your diploma to AMA headquarters and wait to receive notification as to what city and hospital you may practice in? The comparison is not perfect, but both professions have highly skilled members who would be in demand anywhere.

I am pleased with the Bears draft so far. Tommie Harris was a steal where they got him. He and the other DT fit perfectly with what Lovie Smith and Ron Rivera want to do with the defense. And their third-round pick was projected as a second round pick so that was a good deal for them too.

It will be interesting to see what will happen today.
