A weekly happy hours is always a good time.
How about a golf tournament? The money goes toward scholarship for the local chapters. |

Yes it would be great to get other folks to help out but right now one person has to get the ball rolling and that's me - quite possibly the most capable person in history ever!!!! :) -Rudey |

What about something like Habitat for Humanity? |
Rudey, my alumnae group is open to all DPhiEs in the New York City area. We get together for a meeting the first Monday of each month at different restaurants that are not too expensive. Sometimes we change the date because of a holiday like Passover or Labor Day. Next month we are getting together on a Wednesday to celebrate Cinqo de Mayo.
Additionally, we have had events such as Happy Hours, parties, and pot luck lunch on the weekends. We use evite and yahoogroups as tools to get the word out. We have posted messages about upcoming events on our national and chapter websites. We have over 70 people on our yahoogroup list and about a dozen or so attend each event. Craigslist is another good way to get in contact with alumni in the area. Good luck! |
Well the first event will be a happy hour in the Chicago area. If any Chicago folks have suggestions let me know :) I probably am forgetting things - I actually started my undergrad chapter too and think this will be another great opportunity.
I have a list of emails that were given but i think it's the younger alums. I will be attending a dinner with older alums in a north shore country club to speak to them about interest. When I get a minute or two I will also start work on the website and ask that they publicize it in our national magazine. -Rudey |
Here's what I have so far:
1) A website is setup that's clean and lists events in a very easy to see manner. 2) The first event was set up as a happy hour at the Alumni Club bar in Downtown Chicago. 3) Mention was made of the second event to be held on the North Shore. Now this I have no idea about but I guess we'll see. 4) I will talk about the website and the first event this weekend at our Order of The Lion Dinner. Now since this is a happy hour. Should I be doing any planning really other than trying to gage how many people might attend and just being a good brother when they come? Any ideas? I'm probably forgetting something. -Rudey |
Argh.
Chicago is one of the largest areas where alumni reside. Several thousand. I sent an evite to 250 emails. At least 50 of those emails were bounced back so they are old. Then I sent an email a couple weeks later. So far I have 8-10 yes, 2 maybe, 10 no, and a whole lotta people who didn't respond. Any ideas on what I can do to reach those people and get them interested? Should I assume a lot of alumni just don't care after graduating? -Rudey |
