I believe in soulmates more so than I believe in true love. I think that the reason that we run through so many relationships before we "get it right" is because we're searching for our soulmate. Sometimes our soulmate isn't necessarily someone with whom we'd have a romantic relationship. Sometimes it is. It's all such a mystery.

I think we run through so many relationships because we are neurotic morons that are pathologically unable to make ourselves happy.

Words of wisdom from James. And probably more true than we would all like to believe.

"I like the word soul. I like the word mate. Other than that you got me."

-Mr. Big

Sorry, I had to. but no, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I like the idea of having one and meeting him. However I also think that it's a very dangerous thought because what if I never meet him? The thought that there's only ONE person out there for you. And if you never find them? So I don't know. Maybe I feel this way because I haven't met him--?

This page has a better explanation than I can give:

I complete agree with this!!
When I explained this belief to my best friend, she thought it was true.

valkyrie- my mom believes that our cat (who recently passed away, RIP kitty:( ) was her soulmate.. my dad thought she was crazy, I believe it.

I think we have multiple soulmates...

edited because I can't spell on a friday afternoon .. :p

I have met my soulmate and I love him very much. But I can't see us ever getting married or being "together."

I realize that makes zero sense, but in my little world, it's perfect.

I found an interesting article in Psychology Today while I was reading it at the beach. It basically says that nowadays we have much higher expectations of our partners and more of an attitude of "well I can always divorce if it doesn't work", which is why our divorce rate is the way it is.
Here's the link:

I really would love to think they do exist.

I met my husband in 1997 in high school and I even gave up a scholarship to another school to go to his college he was gonna go to. My mom was pissed and he didnt even ask me, I just knew this was the first real relationship Ive had where I thought I was in love and he was the one and I didnt want to screw it up by us being 200 miles apart. I applied to that college, got in, and we both graduated from there 5 years later.

Weve been together 7 years and married for almost a year and I really believe we were meant to be together. We even joined Greek Life together.

It would be nice to think everyone had someone out there that was meant for them.

I think everybody who doesn't believe in the idea of a soulmate just hasn't met theirs yet.

Not really.

It's a simple factor of probability.

If there are six billion people in the world, what are the chances that as many people who have claimed to met their soulmates actually have when they encounter far far fewer than that before the time they get married?

The idea of soulmates is inherently depressing, I think, because the world is so big that the odds of you meeting that one person are incredibly small.

It's just that everyone clicks with certain people to different degrees, and if you suddenly click with one boyfriend much faster or better than you do with all the ones before, it's going to feel like you were "meant for each other" -- when in reality there are probably tens if not hundreds of people out there that would make your current one pale in comparison.

How many times have we seen celebrities (or our friends) touting someone as "their soulmate" only for them to split a couple years later?

I'm not trying to be depressing, just realistic. And the concept of soulmates is just not very realistic . . . and if it does indeed exist, the majority of people out there who think they've found their soulmates probably haven't, based on the numbers game.

Xylochick216 05-17-2004 12:44 AM

I think that soulmates exist, but they're not always romantic love. Your soul mate can be your best friend, but not someone you would want to necessarily marry. I think my fiance is definitely my soulmate, but I also have a few friends who are as well.

I believe in 'em! Why? When I see two people so obviously completely totally entirely in love with each other, it just makes me *want* to believe. And I think that's enough reason.

winneythepooh7 05-22-2004 09:32 AM

I don't know either cuz I haven't met mine. I agree with whoever said that people nowadays are too caught up in looking for perfect and too eager to get a divorce. I also live in a large urban environment where it's felt if he doesn't work out there are so many more fish in the sea. NYC the singles capital of the world? So to all of you who are still single like me, where do we go to meet our "soul mate"?!
