I've never heard them called "jimmies" before in my life -- I've only heard them called "sprinkles" but I guess it doesn't matter much to me because I don't like them anyway.

Speaking of ice cream, though, I sure miss Oberweis Dairy in the Chicago area.

man.... and i thought this was going to be a thread about Jimmy Johns... oh how i love my beach club :D

i guess i'm one of the few who HAS heard that "jimmies" is a racial term for what is commonly known in other parts of the country as "chocolate sprinkles." i had always called the long thin candies "jimmies," (regardless of color) and the little round ones "sprinkles" (regardless of color) until i got to college and learned that other parts of the country uses the term "sprinkles" to label them both.

also- it was brought to my attention that the term "jimmies" was related to the "jim crow" laws as said before.

whatever, new englanders are messed up anyway. and yeah, we know it. it's kind of like the "bubbler/water fountain" thing of threads past...

Anyway, Cold stone has the best ice cream but in nyc, I'd take serendipity and penn state has good ice cream on campus.

Nope I was right with you on that one. I used to work at the best ice cream place in my area (it's really frozen custard) and people would say jimmies and I was like eh?

I've been to one Cold Stone and that was in Indianapolis at conference last year. I don't think we have any near me.

Me too, and I refuse to change my position on the matter.

They're sprinkles, dammit

when I hear "jimmies" I think of the Teen Girl Squad where the ugly one says "I got jimmies" I didn't know what the hell she meant!

they still have a lot of them in brooklyn by me. there is one by my office and on wednesdays during the summer we always take advantage of the two-for-one sundaes.

back on topic: i have always known the term jimmies but if i am at an ice cream place i always ask for chocolate sprinkles. i think of jimmies as an old term that people don't really use anymore.

LOL! That is so true!!!!!!! For the record, I call them sprinkles. (now I'm off to Homestarrunner.com to watch that...thanks ;) )

jimmies vs sprinkles

Okay here is my take on jimmies...I work for an ice cream store called Cold Stone Creamry...Our "jimmies" is our "out-of-the-norm" sprinkles...meaning they are not rainbow colored sprinkles. And our rainbow colored "sprinkles" are known as sprinkles....

And for the Jimmy Johns person....Yes I too thought this was a thread for Jimmy Johns....Hmm, I could def. go for some right now.

ZTAngel 04-13-2004 06:03 PM

You work at an ice cream shop? Your profile says that you're a teacher.

mshoole 04-13-2004 06:07 PM

Hey every teacher needs a part-time gig...I am a subsitute teacher...And, I work part-time at Cold Stone...But its sort of embarrassing saying that I work for a Ice Cream shop...So I say I am a teacher though i only sub. Ill change it and try to find something better to say..hold on.

mshoole 04-13-2004 06:09 PM

Okay now check it out...Sub Teacher/ Cold Stone Employee...Thanks...I needed that confidence booster today...:(

ZTAngel 04-13-2004 06:17 PM

Why are you embarrassed about saying you work at an ice cream shop? Most of us, if not all of us, have had to take a part time job that we don't exactly like in order to have some money.

chideltjen 04-13-2004 06:20 PM

this is so funny. I was helping my mom make easter cookies this weekend and she has one of those 6 packs in one sprinkle set. And on one of the canisters, it said "purple jimmies" or something to that effect. i was like "what the hell are jimmies?"

They have always been sprinkles to me.

But glad someone was on the same train of thought when they started this thread. :D

mshoole 04-13-2004 06:27 PM

yeah but its like here I am college graduate and I work at an ice cream shop with 15 and 16 year olds who's worst thought is if they are going to have a date for the spring formal....Lord..what can I say..acutally I like working there its just umm not something Im always proud of...Like yesterday for instance...I was working at Cold Stone and I accidently set the alarm off cuase I put my house alarm code in, instead of the store one and a 16 year old snot nosed brat (yes I am telling you the truth he is such a brat thinks he is better than me...another long epic) had to help...he iddnt let me live it down at all last night. I meet alot of strange people though working at Cold Stone...I acutally met my finace's ex-girlfriend there...Strange...
