Look, I understand your point. But I don't think you understand what you're saying. I wish that I could find a brother who went off to war and served his country. Then I'd like you to tell him that his patriotism, his service to our country, means that his chapter was technichally "closed" for a while.

Personally, I find it rude to our history and to our core values if we nit pick over stupid points. But I'd like you to go find one of those brothers and tell them that serving their country meant that the chapter was "closed". Those men did nothing wrong, they weren't suspended or shut down. So why would you treat them like they were?

Maybe you should be trying to find the chapter that has sent the most men off to fight and protect this country instead of trying to fault them for it.

Funny you should say that but I come from just such a chapter....

The original Local "Habarim" closed due to massive casualities during The Great War in 1915; around 1916 some of the survivors who came back, who were too wounded too press back into the fight, founded Alpha Epsilon.... eventually becoming Epsilon Epsilon Zeta in 1927....

When WW2 erupted (1939 up here) 1/3 of ALL (Alumni & Actives) initiated brothers served in uniform, with chapter strength severely reduced, but a concerted effort was made to keep the chapter open as it served as a focal point for brother on leave, and as a clearing house for information on brothers over-seas.... in fact the chapter was seen as so important to both past, present, and future brothers that the chapter collected money and purchased a larger house in 1941.

These men served their country voluntarily for many years and in many theatres, but they all saw the need to keep the brotherhood and chapter alive....

The question asked was what is the longest continuing Zeta?

A peeing contest is unwarrented. Whether it was closed down for a war effort has nothing to do with it.

The Zeta was either open or closed for what ever reason, Patriotic or not.

That is the question.

It seems two are in the running:

Penn St. or U Cal. At (Berkley)

Maybe it is bragging rights but it is still History.:)
