In my heart the best place to live is NYC, but ya can't be broke that's for sure. I lived in 5 other states and my heart always longs to go back home. Personally, I can do without some of the southern states--no disrespect to my southern brothers and sisters. But I heard Illinois and Texas are cool states.

Man NYC is the place to be!! Madison ave, Fifth Ave... Chinese food and the 99 cent store man it is fabulous... you can live cheaply here.... it is according to what cheap is to you I have also been to Dallas and it is indeed nice... but I am a performing arts girl and I want to be near Broadway and the stars... hey that is just me.

I am sorry, but it has to be the DC Metropolitan area. This is a great place to live. Especially for young professional African Americans.

Also if you are a white congressman who has an affair with an intern, lies about it, kills her, hides her body, and you only come clean when a flight attendant says she hit you off, and it is later learned that you probably tasted the sweet nectar of an 18 year old black girl.

Gosh I love this city. Off to Nations to "Get my drink on, gecha gecha drink on!"

MN

Hey Manndingo, I gotta agree with you on that one. I have been to most of the cities mentioned here and I am just comfortable in DC and will probably live here for the rest of my life. I tell everybody that I will be buried in Prince Georges County. This is the county for young professional African Americans to live. Places to go in comparison with the rest of the metro area lack but it is getting better.

The only city I thought I might stay in is Chicago but I just couldn't stand the constant breeze that was blowing all the time. I guess that is why they call it the windy city.

Blue and Nupe,

I'm with both of you. I love DC and plan to set up my business here.

Blue, I grew up in Prince Georges County! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif If you are a black professional here, you are in goooood company!

I live in Chicago, and it is a great place to live, if you can put up with the following qualifications...

1. You like seeing the seasons change. We get a little bit of Spring and Summer and a lot a bit of Autumn and Winter.

2. you like having lots of stuff to do at your fingertips.

3. you like a racially diverse city.

4. you don't mind the smell of dead fish every time you drive past Lake Michigan in the "Spring".

5. you like living by water.

6. you make the money needed to live in a decent area.

7. you love to shop, do the day spa thing, eat out at restaurants, drive in busy traffic, and avoid lots and lots of tourist in the "Summer".

I love living in Chicago. I couldn't imagine living anyplace smaller.

Memphis is cool now, but like novella said, give it about five years....With the acquisition of the Grizzlies and major construction downtown, in a few years Memphis may be back to where it used to be. Now if I had to choose today from the 2 cities that I've lived in, I would have to pick Nashville. I love me some TITANS!!! And not to mention the five regular malls, 3 (I think) area outlet malls, shoe warehouses, Centennial Park, West End, Radnor Lake, Vanderbilt, TSU, Fisk, Meharry, MTSU, and the short drives (3-6 hours) to Memphis, Atlanta, Chicago, etc....

Other cities that I think I may want to settle down in: Dallas, Houston, DC metro, and maybe Atlanta. I like the south, and would rather stay here when I "grow up."

Diva_56, I must agree. There is no city like New York City http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I now live in the Baltimore area, and I miss "home" sooo much. The only downside is the cost of living, but I still visit every month to get my NYC fix. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Where in the county did you grow up Poplife? I am a native and moved to PG County when I was 10 years old. What high school did you go to? Who knows, we might know each other or some of the same people.
