What a Horrible Message to Send to Our Young Girls!!!

Vanda, you have said it best--who and why would someone even put a show based on this premise on television?  I agree, they are setting these women up to end up right back where they started--w/ low self-esteem :( simply b/c they failed to make it to the beauty pagent...this sends a horrible HORRIBLE message to these women...That no matter how much surgery you get, make-up you have on, hair coloring, etc. etc.--you still are not good enough. I beleive that all these women need therapy. Our young girls are watching this type of crap on tv, and they take in these messages (which is why we end up w/ folks who barely look legal on shows like "I want a Famous Face"). It's really sad...

Yeah, that's jacked up. Your mate is supposed to think you are the most beautiful (or handsome) woman (or man) in this world. If they don't, then you are obviously w/ the wrong person.

Never mind that - he needs a brain transplant. :p

I watched part of the show, and I don't think I'll be watching it again. To me it just seems cruel to build these women up, give them plastic surgery, makeovers, diet and exercise regimens, and therapy, then at the end of the 3 months one of them is told that after all that, she's still not good enough, time to go home.

It does have the message that if you're willing to work hard enough, you can accomplish your goals. The surgery and training sessions cannot have been much fun. Of course, it also has the message that none of your problems will ever be fixed without a boob job and some liposuction.

And was anyone else reminded of those nasty hazing rumors about how sororities line their pledges up in their underwear and circle their fat? :p

Not to say that some of "us" wouldn't be on there, but what I seem to find many times is that no matter what we look like, we seem to carry ourselves in a confident manner. Of course I'm not saying that we all do, but many times we are quite sure of ourselves.

One thing I'm trying to instill in my daughter is that she's beautiful no matter what (and she is pretty, y'all. . .).

The show moves to Monday nights starting tonight but thankfully it will air again on Thursday nights as well. I cannot miss Girlfriends for this.:)

The Swan is for the psychos. I couldn't imagine feeling so "un-pretty" and going through such a drastic change. These women can't even handle it when looking in the mirror, and even though they end up looking different they don't neccessarily look better.

I just wanted to say I agree. The plastic surgeons were magicians! Four months ago, most of their stomaches looked like stripped jello and here they are wearing bikinis with six-packs. I couldn't see myself going through that entire process but if it helped them to become better inside and out, I'm happy for them.
