I did have a moment at a bar two weeks ago but my friends are SO SUPPORTIVE and I realize that the two years I spent smoking were a waste of time and money. I'm going to save 1400 dollars a year not smoking! WOW! My mom and my younger sister also quit smoking recently, it was sort of like a family thing. I know this sounds weird, but my skin glows now be/c I'm not filled with those toxic poisons and I have more energy and I am not out of breath when I work out!
I had a customer come in yesterday who had quit smoking also. She spent the same amount on cigarettes in a year too. So to reward herself she bought a ring so as to reward herself and remind herself of how far she's come.

I like the sound of that ;)

The only time I wish I could smoke again is when I'm drinking. Its so hard when all of your friends still smoke & encourage you to do so as well! :( But I quit cold turkey again (a few weeks ago actually) & I'm going to do what I can to stay smoke free! :D

You're the same as me! I smoked in junior high, then quit when tennis season came my freshmen year. Then as soon as tennis season was over my senior year I started up again.

At the end of February I started having breathing problems, so I quit. Cold Turkey. I craved cigarettes and I'd try one, but then I'd feel like I was gona throw up. I was stressed one night, so I had a menthol and I'll now have one once in a while. Sometimes I'll crave one, especially at the bar.

I'm opening up a ROTH IRA instead! Although, I've always wanted a pink sapphire....hmmm

Good for you!! I really should stop, but I am sort of afraid that I would snack more than is good for me. I'm already trying to do something about my weight. Don't know if I can try to "fix" everything at once!

Tiny, I know what ya mean! We ain't EVEN gonna talk about the weight I gained after I quit!

Sigh...I wish I could quit.

I've been smoking since Junior Year HIGH SCHOOL, and since then I've tried cold turkey at least 6 times, much to no avail.

It's a tough, tough habit to give up...and I hate being looked down on because of that.

Cold turkey just doesn't work for everyone. :(

Congratulations!

My mother smoked when she was younger. She quit cold turkey after she met my father (about 40 years ago). She hadn't had a cigarette since.

Good luck!

You are right! Which is why you should investigate what free programs your job/school/city/state offer! There are plenty of programs that are free to low cost that you could sign up for! Good luck!!!

Congrats! I've never been a smoker, but I am a nail-biter, and I know how hard it is to break that terrible habit. Best of luck to you~you have now motivated me to stop biting my nails. :D

You know what you should get. They have polish designed to help people stop bitting their nails. It tastes really bad.
I don't know the name but you should be able to find it in any drug store.

If you have a Sally's Beauty Supply near you, I used to work there, & I know they carry the nail-biting stuff. Although, from what I hear, it isn't as nasty as it should be & most people I know that have tried it end up biting their nails w/ it on!

I would suggest keeping something else around to help w/ your oral fixation. ;) Like gum or mints or something else you can always chew on!

Congratulations! Keep it up! Don't let your friends try to give you cigarettes, especially when you are drinking! I've also given up smoking and have done quite well. Everyone knows I've quit and even if I ask for one (in my tipsy-ness), they won't give me any. :)

I haven't had a cigarette in 3 days!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to quite. Although, I've noticed I am eating more. Damn, there goes weight watchers.

Well I can only do 1 thing at a time.

ETA: Did I mention that I am dying here!!!!

ZeroCool 04-08-2004 04:25 PM

congrats, beating smoking is pretty hard.

AOPIHottie 04-08-2004 05:12 PM

I quit smoking as part of my new years "healthy" resolutions, and have had 3 smokes since then. Everyonce inawhile I get a horrible craving, so I will stick pens or straws in my mouth til it dies down some, I also bought a HUGE bag of suckers and that helped alot-yes, its a lot of sugar, but it was better for me than stuffing my face with tons of more fattening food. I know how hard it is, but STICK IT OUT. it gets easier! congrats all of us who quit!!!!!!!!
