Re: Re: Georgia House Bans Female Genital Piercings

Yeah but you never know, it depends on how the law is worded. There are a lot of laws that are applied to people and situations that the framers of the law didn't intend, but prosecutors (a wierd breed, kind of like hall-monitors-run-rampant) will do so anyway for their own reasons. There are people serving serious jail time for such reasons.

This is my favorite part of the article:

"What? I've never seen such a thing," Heath said. "I, uh, I wouldn't approve of anyone doing it. I don't think that's an appropriate thing to be doing."

I don't know what it is, but I'm gonna ban it anyway!

Hurray for that mindset.

aren't there REAL laws to uphold?

Ha! Just ask all the people in jail for having a little weed in their pockets. You'd think!

I guess, to a certain extent (and please don't kill me for saying this), good for them. People are getting a little too wild in terms of how they dress and where they pierce anyway. I'm all for doing whatever one wants, since it is a free society, but it's just that some people get a little too crazy. I'm always careful as to how I look, dress, etc. My clothes are never too far off from "badge attire". Generally, my regular casual day clothes are perhaps two or so notches below that. I don't even own real jeans.

ETA: I meant non-athletic clothes I wear in public. I wear whatever when I'm at home or if I'm working out.

I am going to disagree--- maybe some people are a little wild with their piercings and tats-- but so be it. Individuals have every right to adorn their bodies as they so choose. I don't want someone telling me what I can and cannot do--- it is my choice!!!
Yes you said it is a free society but who is to decide what is "too crazy"?
It is my place to decide if my 8 tattoos, piercing, and my stretched earlobes are too much. Granted all but one tat is hidden, the stretched lobes look like thick silver hoops, and the piercing--well only a select few know it is even there--it is not for public display.
But I am able to decide what is right for me, I don't want a lawmaker telling me I can't do something with my body.

This law disturbs me on two levels. Although I'm conservative and feel such piercings aren't for ME, if other women want them, it's their choice and it seems ludicrous that a law could prevent it. I can't see it being upheld in the Supreme Court challenges that it is bound to face. STOP TELLING US WHAT TO DO WITH OUR BODIES!! This law could be worded to exclude piercings if they chose to.

On the second level.. why only women? If you're going to outlaw genital piercing, then do it for everybody. Why are women targeted? Aren't their cultural rituals that involve men's genitals too? (I'm fairly certain I've read of them).

I think it has to do with the actual place of piercing since women's genital piercing is much closer to FGM than guys' piercings are to circumsicion. In any case, I've heard some people call (male)circumsicion "cruel" as well.

Let's just say male circumcision is like cutting off labia. As far as how close the male piercing is to the female, they are equal. If you think about how genitalia are formed (males and females start out with a nub that either inverts to form a vagina and clitoris or grows out to form a penis) it's the exact same thing. It's just that women are inferior to men 'round these here parts! Right?? Oops...I don't THINK so!! Three cheers for female genital piercings!

Well, darn! If Georgia's doing it, Alabama will be right behind, and guess who'll have to move? ;)

If you think that female gential piercing is closer to female genital mutilation than male genital piercing is to circumcision you should check out BMEZine.com

Warning: Some of the photographs are hardcore and may offend some.

ITs just a projected Oedipus complex issue.

A bunch of middle-aged men that have always wanted to force their daughters to drop their pants for them. Think about it. No one else is going to be checking but the parents. Even in Georgia you would have law suits galore if "officials" tried Random-Clit-Searches.

This just gives the father's an excuse to partially act out their supressed libidinous desires and demonstrate their ownership.

I can see the scene in the Living room one night already . . . "Drop 'em. . .. who's your Daddy . . .."

That's just disgusting...I would rather look at those pictures than think about this.

They passed the law . . .
its a logical conclusion
