I'm not upset that the women spoke out for what they believed, what I am upset about is that one of my sisters (as I understand the article) lumped me into a place where I have never been... submissive. I was not brought up to be submissive to the white man or the MAN for that matter.

Why is it that I cannot be an American greek, who just happens to live in the south and take pride in the south and my state, my heritage, and just happen to not be submissive to the "Man"?

As to the whole voting thing... it is just like with Americans today, we don't vote... it isn't that we are abstaining from the vote... we don't take the 5.6 sec it takes to walk into a polling place... away from the tv and the supersize fries, and press the button or punch the hole, or push the screen... I agree that if the student body would vote, with or without the machine, just vote... this wouldn't be an issue because the majority would win out.

I'm sorry that either of those women felt that their life was in danger or that they were being disinfranchised, that is wrong. I just hope that them and their campus will be able to see through the crazyness of all this and come back together one day.

I propose a new Machine rule:

I propose a new Machine rule:

Each pledge class must select one person to volunteer for the staff of the campus newspaper. In a few years, they might have the newspaper under control.

Just because you had enough friends to pick you for 31 doesn't mean you can get cocky now.

I'm by no means a Bama expert, but XXXI is a society for the top 31 women on the Alabama campus. I know this because the TGC we had for recruitment last year was a Bama Pi Phi. Not only was she in XXXI, she was Pi Phi prez and won the Amy Burnham Onken award nationally (basically, Pi Phi's award to best senior in the fraternity). She was pretty freakin' cool.

I don't know any of the political ramifications behind XXXI.

ETA: I was looking at an older version of the page and didn't see that Bama_Alumna had answered the question before me. Oh well! :o

Lucky Independent

Luckily I am running for SGA Senate at UA as an Independent so I don't really have to worry about the machine. It would be nice to have their backing, but if they told me not to run it would only make me mad and more determined.

If you want more info on the machine, and some sources check out the chapter on the machine in this .pdf.
