Hey DolphinChicaDDD and AXiD670,
That Spur pin attached to the Alpha Xi Delta Quill is the badge of a sophomore recognition society for women, International Spurs (or, formerly, National Spurs). I don't know if the organization is still around, or how widespread it might currently be in numbers and locations of chapters. The spur pin is pictured in the 1991 edition of Baird's, which listed 40 chapters, with the note that they were relying on old non-updated information at that time. Most of the chapters appeared to be in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states. It was founded in 1922 at Montana State.
Spurs was more or less a sophomore version of Mortar Board, recognizing a combination of scholarship, activities/leadership, and service.
With luck, maybe a current or former Spur on GC will see this and will be able to fill us in more.
