Last year at my school one Rho Chi took her group to her apartment to hang out. She had disaffiliated everything that was out in the public eye, but one girl snuck into the Rho Chi's bedroom and looked in her closet for letters! She came out and immediately told all the other girls. So rude.

It's pretty much on the honor system if you know your rho chi's affiliation (or think you do). If you were uncomfortable talking to your PX because you knew her affiliation (say, you were preffing her sorority and it wasn't your top pick) you could get advice from any other PX.

When I was a PX, we weren't allowed to wear or display the letters of any sorority even if it wasn't ours. On pref night we had to dress up but couldn't wear either white (which Alpha Phi wore) or black (which all the other sororities wore). We did try to confuse our PNMs as to what sorority we were in - my group had me pegged for a Sigma Kappa. :p

Also, the year I was a PX, a bunch of us had our affiliations published in the school paper! During the spring, the school runs a "Campus Preview Weekend" where admitted students can come and spend a few days on campus, go to classes, check out the campus and Boston, etc. During CPW the IFC took out an ad in the paper basically to let prefrosh know who IFC and Panhel leadership was and whom they could contact if they had any questions about greek life, rush, etc. So the Panhel president, VP-Rush, rush chair, and a few rho chis who were also Panhel officers had our names and affiliations published in a paper specifically designed for prefrosh to take home. :eek:

when i rushed rho chis were discouraged from even having sorority items in their homes. they were really careful about making sure no one could accidentally announce their affiliation. However, the precautions weren't enough because no one explained the whole concept to the fraternity guys. on welcome day the PNMs were about to enter the AZD house and one of the FIJIs, whose house is right next doo, screamed off his balcony " Hey Sara, why are you at the Fuzzie house when you're a Alpha Gam"? (name and actual affiliation have been changed because i can't remember what they actually were) There went that secret. Within a day everyone knew that Rho Chi's affiliation.

This is what I was thinking of when I wrote, "To play devil's advocate, lets say it was purely accidental. No dirty rushing, no rush infractions etc. No PNM let it slip. Basically, somehow it "gets out" that she is an ABC."

I have a question for whoever would know: When I went through Rush our counselors were called Rho Chi's, but I think in most schools they have changed the title to Rho Gamma's. Why is that?

(My niece will be a Rho Gamma this year at UCF and I am so proud of her!)

I heard they changed because Rho Chi (PX) is a Pharmeceutical professional fraternity. Rho Gamma stands for Recruitment Guide. I've heard that, Pi Chi (Panhellenic Guide), and a few others. Elon just uses Recruitment Counselor, no Greek letters.

I hate the term Rho Gamma! It reminds me of the shot I had a few times while I was pregnant! The Rho Gam shot is for women with negative blood types! LOL!
