Janet's nipple piercing did have nipple/aerola showing through. Of course, we all had to see the shot frozen and magnified 500 times to know that, but it was there. So that makes it "unacceptable".
Well, unfortunately for me, one of my guy friends had a really close up picture of the exposed area as his messenger icon. and althought it took me a few minutes to figure out what it was, you could see that everything 'unacceptable' was covered (just like lil kim) Dont get me wrong, I dont think what she did was right by any means, but I still dont really have a problem with it.

videos too racy...

'toxic' britney spears
'megalomaniac' incubus
'this love' maroon 5

also videos by blink 182 and others

mtv

my thinking is that they are only moving 6 videos. what about the rap videos?!

darn my spelling error

What blink182 video is RACY? They're all PG-13 at best.

Hmmm, we must have seen very different pictures then, because I clearly saw a different shade of brown under that sun thing - which says to me that is wasn't just "normal" breast skin there...

At any rate, I agree with you. It's not a big deal to me either...then again, I'm an "artist" so I think I have different views than a lot of folks.

Blink 182 has a new video that is really morbid actually. It's something out of a horror show actually. It's all black, death-like, women dressed like porcelin dolls. I forget if one of them like drowns herself or not.

It's not really BAD but I could see where it'd give some kids nightmares.

OK...I never watch MTV anymore but I have a pretty good idea to what song that is for. I just couldn't ever see them doing a racy video.

what was the problem with Maroon 5's This Love video?

My cousin is 4, saw the superbowl show and was convinced that JT was going to get in BIG trouble, because he knows that boys shouldn't do that to girls.

But JT ISN'T in "trouble" -- he had to apologize -- like so many other celebs, people see them do stuff and get away with it, and then they want to be just like them.

I'll agree with you definitely, lovely, that parents have to set the rules and enforce them -- no argument there. I just think that the nipplegate (lol at the name!) participants deserve what is coming to them, and the FCC should set the example here. Of course after okay'ing the *F* word, I don't have much faith in the FCC.

Honestly, I'm not all up in arms about the whole thing. I don't watch the half-time show for the same reason that I don't watch MTV when they show videos -- I just don't need to see all that. I can see porn on the internet for free if I wanted to.

I will say, however, that the piercing was pretty cool - I'm a chicken, and no piercings other than two in the ear - but it was pretty. Still - I didn't (and apparantly lots of other folks agree) need to see that during a "family" sports event.

ETA: I think what makes me mad about the whole thing, is the LEAST they coulda done was own up to it -- this whole "wardrobe malfunction" is a giant load of BS. If you did it - be woman/man enough to say so.

krazy 02-10-2004 03:07 PM

How come these guys can all release music videos like this and no one gets mad, but if a corporation was to release some sort of commercial like this, even if it just aired on "appropriate" channels/times, the feminists would be screaming bloody murder... Just wondering, not defending or accusing anything or anyone.

krazy 02-10-2004 03:08 PM

Oh yeah, and what is the deal with Meglomaniac? I have not seen it, but incubus is good. Anyone know?

ISUKappa 02-10-2004 03:27 PM

I think the issue with the Maroon 5 "This Love" video there are a few lengthy segments where the singer is in bed making out with a topless woman. You can't see anything explicit, but it gives off a very soft-core-porn vibe. The regular video isn't even available on MTV.com anymore, only the live, TRL video.

Obviously, VH1 doesn't have the same issues as the video is still available for viewing on their site:
http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/maroon_5/artist.jhtml
then click on "This Love" full-length video

ISUKappa 02-10-2004 03:36 PM

As far as "Megalomaniac" is concerned, the video has themes of anti-war depicted in a strange way--it uses propaganda films from Nazi Germany and has some disturbing graphic effects that are a little odd at first view. I think it's a great video, but I think the average MTV viewer would not understand it. It's a little more sophisticated than Jessica Simpson.

Again, it's on VH1 if you're interested in watching it.

GeekyPenguin 02-10-2004 03:43 PM

ISUKappa, thanks for the VH1 links - I just watched the blink-182 video and I actually thought the spiders were the creepiest part. I remember when I was younger, MTV would show Marilyn Manson and NIN videos during the middle of they day, and this is tame compared to those.

I can see that this video does show a lot of skin but nothing inappropriate at all.

WHATTHEFAAAAAACK?

Ok yeah MTV....b/c you let Britney kiss another chick LIVE....but you know, her latest video is just over the top
Maybe some of us will not see you as hypocritical when you stop airing 3 way makeout sessions on shows like Dismissed, etc....

By the way I think MTV should keep all of it as it used to be a station aimed towards college kids and not grade schoolers....I just think they're being a lil hypocritical.

I just want Hillary Duff and say...Paris Hilton to make out on MTV.
