I have the plain pin, which unfortunately I really don't like. I really, really, really want the pin with the sapphires but I don't wear it that often so part of me thinks it is fruitless to spend so much on a pin that I wear twice a year if I'm lucky. Although, Convention is a year away.
Question for y'all, when I transferred schools I did not affiliate to the local chapter, so I ergo never took a diamond or held an office. Anyways, I'm going back to school to obtain my teaching certification and I'm thinking as a reward to myself that if I maintain the GPA required for a scholarship ball that I would go ahead and buy myself one. Does this seem wrong to do? Brianna |

I have three badges.
My badge was a suprise to me. I ordered the plain glad bade with guard. The guard connects to the bottom. (I have not bought my dangles yet, but my badge won't be complete until I do. So one day I will fill the guard.)I was not aware that white gold was an option. My parents contact the "Alpha Mom" (this was before NMC) and upgraded it to pearls with 4 blue saphire points. It is beautiful. I have pinned every one of my littles (2) and 3 of my grandlittles with my pin. When I turned 20, 2 years into ADPi, i found out my great-aunt was an adpi from Georgia Tech in 1936. Having no legacies of her own, she sent me the best bday gift I have ever gotten, her badge. It is beautiful. It is smaller than mine. It doesn't have the raised hands and the stars are cut out. It has gorgeous opals all the way around the badge. Opals are not offered anymore to my knowledge. I actually end up wearing this one more than my own. Just this past month, my boyfriend heard me venting about pins on ebay and decided to rescue one for me. So now i have a plain gold badge from he same time period as my great-aunts. It too is smaller and has the cut stars and flat hands. It came with a guard that connects on one side. |
I decided to splurge when I got mine and chose the one that I really really wanted. It's yellow gold with alternating pearls and sapphires. I don't have a guard or any dangles yet, but one of these days, I'll get around to getting those...

Well maybe a few of us old school adpi can come in and remind the chapter of all the traditions we once did. :) Interested?
|
I think that would be an awesome idea!
|
I think that might be something we can do :) I' know I would love it!

Hmm... I think we need a thread on traditions!
As for pins, I once saw a plain pin with diamond points. It was awesome - VERY art deco!! That would be one I'd love to have... |
I really, really wanted the white gold with diamonds all around it (diamonds are my birthstone), but there was NO way I could afford it, so I splurged just a little bit less and got a white gold pin with alternating pearls and amethysts. It is really pretty and I get complmented on it often. The guard attaches at the bottom, and I have not gotten all my dangles yet, but am working on it.

I am just a poor college kid, so I have the gold badge with pearls at the 4 corners. My guard attaches from the side.

I have most of my dangles attached by a jeweler so they don't don't slide around (and I won't lose them if the chain breaks away from the guard or badge). And yes, I have my scholarship pearl also. I never ordered a gold one when I got a 4.0 one semester. Maybe I should go back and do that....... The reason I ordered this badge is a bit embarassing now. It was at our first pledge meeting (we were still called pledges then) and we had to pick which one we wanted. Well, I still wasn't too sure about this ADPi sorority and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a badge for a GLO I didn't know if I was going to like or not. Isn't that strange to think about? Now ADPi is such a HUGE part of my life I could not imagine myself anywhere else. God knew what He was doing when He matched me up with ADPi! The only reason I'm posting that is because some new members may not be too sure of their GLOs at first, but hang in there a while- the longterm benefits are great! |
Sisters,
In college, I ordered the plain one because "every ADPi must purchase her own badge." I only wore my mother's, which is yellow gold with pearls and rubies at the four corners (oh yeah, and the clapsed hads weren't raised when she was initiated, 1966). I wear my Gamma Lambda guard (plain yg, not roped or otherwise decorated) and it attaches to my badge from the side. (I had it on last Thurs and I am doing this from memory - I'll correct later if need be!) I own a brandy-new badge (3/1/02) that I got from Ebay recently that is GORGEOUS! It is white gold, with alternating pearls and sapphires! It has raised clasped hands. I haven't yet ordered a guard for it, but I will, and will purchase white gold dangles for it too! (I know, I'm so corny...) I own another white gold badge, plain, with flat clapsed hands, from 4/18/64 from Beta Tau chapter. It has a guard attached midway between the side and the bottom. I have worn it with the BT guard - Is that wrong??? Lastly, I have a 10K yellow gold, year unknown but flat clasped hands, with pearls and 4 sapphires at the points. I did purchase one with all pearls, a roped guard, and flat clasped hands, but I can't find it!!!! :-( I'd like to hear from you Sisters as to the issue of wearing a guard from another chapter. I have my mother's Delta Iota guard and would like to wear it. It's not roped, but not plain, it has some type of unusual design (if memory serves...) Her chapter is closed and I thought it would be nice to wear it. Loyally, Leslie |
