As long as they are using the same technology and your phone is multi-band capable, you can have the carrier unlock them and allow you to use any carrier's sim card. My MIL does this when travelling to Europe. She takes her phone and buys a month of service and sim card from France Telecom or whichever one is cheaper. It isn't the band, it is the band and the technology combined.

When we were in Las Vegas a stripper took my friends phone...he never got it back.

I've lost my phone and I thought I was gonna die! I lost it afer a chapter meeting last year. One minute I was talking on it. 2 Minutes later it was gone!!! I really think I mistakenly threw it in the trash in the bathroom. It was never found though. After that day, I promised myself I would never buy another cell phone over $100. I'm considering breaking that promise, but for now, I'm still using my very nice free phone on another carrier!

one drunken night i lost my cell phone, keys, my kennith cole watch, and a von dutch hat at a sigma chi party....i was so pissed.
i got another phone for free because it was time for my yearly upgrade....i only had to pay the reactivation for the same exact phone that i had.

I'm notoriously bad at keeping track of my cell phone. I've never had one of those small flip phones, so, whenever i sit down, i habitually take my phone out of my pocket.

One night in college i came home from a party and passed out on my couch. I woke up the next morning and started looking around the dorm for my phone. I could hear it beeping, that i had a voicemail, but i couldn't find it. I opening the door to our mini-fridge to get a Coke and saw my phone sitting in a 12 pack of bud light cans. Apparantly when i left the party, i took some beer with me in a box and threw my cell in it. Still worked after a night of refrigeration.
