1. where is that at? (ur location says "where the north and south meet...so im going to guess DC area/NC?) with only three basic channels, sounds like ur on an army base. our basic channels are CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, UPN (WHICH I HEAR IS CONSIDERED CABLE IN SOME AREAS--THATS A SHAME) , WB, AND PBS.

2. i only watch vh1 soul when im flying on jetblue! i didnt even know it was a real channel. id rather get that than mtv2 or much music

p.s. does any1 find that they can find more on tv to watch with the basics than with cable? i know ive gotten like that.

There is always a rate increase or they are always rearranging channels, then when you complain about it they get an attitude. The first time I disconnected my digital service, I asked them to come out and pick up the equipment. They are always at my apartment complex, so pickup should be easy, but no...the lady told me I can drop it off. I told her they will find there digital box in the middle of 7th street because it is going out the window. There offices are not in the best of locations. I also informed her there is aways a Mediacom van at my building so there should not be a problem. They picked it up the very next day. And lets not talk about calling off work because you have to wait for them all dang on day for them. Now, the people that come out and set up your services, they are very nice and respectful.

Where I am located, we have a seven year contract with them and the residents have been complaining to the mayor about them. I mean calling him at his HOME and complaining about them. Then the Mayor called them about a service problem he was having and the operators got an attitude with him. That next community meeting, he told a repersentive of Mediacom that once the contract is up, the city will be looking for a new cable service.

This was my pet peeve with Crap (Cox) Cable. I would take them days to come out and disconnect (or add channels) and of course, they would charge you a fee.

With DirectTV, one phone call (or go to website) and your results were instant.

I have Insight, too--the digital Starz Family package.

I have Game Show Network--which will become GSN, The Network For Games as of March 15, de-emphasizing game shows and focus more on game oriented programming. I probably will not be watching as much of that channel.

Other channels I like are:

VH-1 Soul--that channel is THE BOMB, and would be perfect if they would set aside a block of time for exclusive old school rap and/or R&B videos, rather than be random, sneaking in the old videos usually in the evening/late night hours. Also stop playing the same latest hit music videos every 2 hours. I saw/heard the same Missy Elliot video (the one where she's talking about, "Put my thing down flip it and reverse it" *say it backwords 2X*) so many times it's not funny.

Black Starz--my most frequently watched movie channel. From old school flicks to new school and all in between.

The problem w/Insight is that I pay $65/month, which IMHO is too much and I have been putting off disconnecting the service b/c I love the channels too much.

I have Comcast Digital!!!!!

I have Charter Communications and I would rate them about a 4. For basic cable, they charge about $47/month. Digital cable runs you about $100. Hubby and I are seriously looking into DirecTV or Dish Satellite. Can you get satellite if you live in an apartment??

Mz Destiny 01-26-2004 12:24 PM

Comcast. I rate them a -10. They are the only choice in my area. They have tons of useless channels. Their rates are out of control. Let's not even get started on their so-called Customer Service. ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

Myself., Inc

It's really cheap, you should try it sometimes.

kiml122 01-26-2004 02:53 PM

Comcast - Digital Cable, and they are cool. I will only give them a 8+ because they are really way to high, but practically everything is on DEMAND now, and I do like that.

Yes, but check with your apartment complex first to see if they allow it and what, if any restrictions they have. For example, my complex allows it, but must attach the dish to the balcony (as opposed to attaching to a pole). At my friend's coplex, they can not attach the dish to the building, but they must use a pole instead.

All you need is a clear view of the southern sky. Now mind you, there is another apartment building directly south of me, but it hasn't affected my reception AT ALL. Just make sure that you attach you dish SECURELY.

Some apartment complexs already have one big satelitte dish hooked up for the entire complex so all you need is the receiver and service. You don't have to worry about the dish at all.

I go to school in Southern Illinois. Some people from Chicago think it's the south while some people think it is located "up north", while I think it's located in the midwest. That is why I say where the north and south meet because no one can make up their minds.

At home (St. Louis) we have Charter and trust me because my mom has been through the ropes with them some of the customer service agents know her pretty well and give use great service. For 3 months my mom got us FREE cable because they were going into that tier service. One tier cost $14.00 and that doesn't have the good channels like VH-1 etc so you have to purchase the second teir for 75.00. Just a big rip off. So they sent all these letters stating that services were being interrupted, but nothing on the letter stated about a cost cut down for interrupted service. I mean services were pretty bad during this time. Well, my mom ended up having surgery at this time and she could not leave the house so she relied on her cable. So here is how it went..

Round one: Up's mommie 1 Charter 0
Round two: Up's mommie 2 Charter 0
Round three: not only did my mom win the fight, I think they were so tired of her they let her have the cable for free. She call them almost every single time the cable went off and told them for how long (down to the last second). Then she called them back and got our neighbors cable for free for three months also.

Do you know the guy who owns Charter is like the second richest man in the world or us...something like that? So he was not missing anything.

okay, maybe we should have a geography thread on here!

(checking mapquest.com...)

wow... illinois is more midwest than i thought! i seriously thought it was "up north"! however, looking at the map, it is more northern... its almost parallel to nyc, and no one ever calls nyc "down south" (unless ur from maine j/k)

so its a toss up between up north and midwest.

Parallel to NYC??? Most of Illinois is Midwest, but Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (my alma mater) is in the southern tip of Illinois near the Kentucky border. And since I have to go south of St. Louis (my home town) to get to it, I consider southern Illinois to be south. And when you go there you can tell the difference between Chicago/northern Illinois and down state.

Had this discussion on another board. St. Louis is on the "modern day" Mason-Dixon line so anything south of there is south. :D :D
