My younger sister is a legacy to both Chi Omega (through our older sisters) and Delta Zeta (through me). I can't wait to see what happens when she gets to college... ;)

ME too!!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum... a legacy to no org. My mother's family is from overseas, and my father's family is anti-greek. No one in my husband's family joined a social GLO either. Well, my hypothetical future daughter will be an AEPhi legacy! :)

I think it's sad when parents twist their kids' arms to join their org. One of my pledge sisters has an aunt who's an AEPhi, and she only allowed her daughters to apply to schools that had AEPhi chapters. None of them actually went AEPhi. (The aunt was at our initiation and gave her pin to her neice, which was nice, but still, her daughters might have been happier at schools that they were not allowed to consider because there was no AEPhi chapter there.) At some point... you have to let your kids choose their own path.

Ok, so one day I will highly suggest that my daughter go ADPi, I mean her baby room WILL be blue and white with lions and diamond shapes all over the place, don't worry, but I won't kill her if she chooses another sorority.

A lot of Greeks in my family. My Granfather was an SAE, his sister was a Kappa, my mother and her two sisters went DG , my brother was a Sigma Nu ,my niece is a Gamma Phi Beta and I went DU.
My wife is an AD Pi, her sister went Kappa ,my mother in law was a Tri-Delt.

I am a legacy to Zeta Tau Alpha through my mom, AOTT through my paternal grandmother and Chi Omega through my maternal Grandmother. My aunt is also a ZTA, and my maternal great grand mother was an AOTT.

My little brother is a legacy to TTKA through my dad and uncle. All of the other men in my family were SAEs, with one Lambda Chi Alpha in there and I am assuming there was 1 KA because I found a KA badge in some old jewelry that we inherited when my paternal grandmother died last summer.

I'm in the same boat....I was the first to go to college on my mom's side of the family, and my dad's side no one was interested in Greek Life, so I'm the very first member of a GLO.

I would love for any daughter of mine to go ADPi, but it truly is her choice....I can't force her to do anything (unless I do it subliminally, right? :D ;) )

I had a couple legacies to choose from...

Mom - Delta Zeta
Grandma - Chi Omega

But it actually didn't matter because neither of those organizations is represented on my campus! So someday when I have a little girl of my own, she can choose from those legacies, plus Kappa Alpha Theta!

ztabchbum 01-30-2004 04:24 PM

My mother is a ZTA (we also went to the same school).
My father is a Sigma Nu.
My older brother is a Sigma Nu.
My step mom and her 5 brothers and sisters are all greek as well but I can't even begin to remember which organizations they were in.
The only odd ball is my little brother who goes to VMI where fraternaties were banned BUT Sigma Nu was founded there! ;)

I'm the first greek in the family. My sister is a junior in HS, and I hope she will at least go through rush. If she goes to a school with an SDT chapter, I will be hoping she goes SDT, but if not thats ok. The only problem I might have if she goes to my school....I do a lot of buisness at my house and if she doesn't go SDT that might have to change, but I wouldn't push her.

GtownGirl98 01-30-2004 05:10 PM

My Dad is a Phi Kappa Sigma (I think that is right... I grew up just knowing that he was greek more than which group)...
My Aunt is a Tri-Delta
Both were at University of Kentucky... that is where I thought I was going up until my senior spring break... and I thought I would be a tri-delta also... I've always been sad that I didn't go to UK because of all the family traditions and the basketball games but I would not go back and change the past... GC opened many doors for me. Plus I love AGD!

I was the first one in my family to go to traditional college plus the first one to go greek. I'm trying to talk the cousins I used to babysit into going greek.
