I heard on Russ Parr this morning that Cedric The Entertainer will serve as co-host. He will be taking Justin Timberlake's place.

ETAA:

Motown Taps Cedric the Entertainer
Mon Mar 15, 9:34 PM ET

LOS ANGELES - Justin Timberlake (news) is out, and Cedric the Entertainer is in as the new co-host of ABC's "Motown 45" special.

Cedric, the co-star of "Barbershop 2: Back in Business," will emcee the show with singer Lionel Richie (news).

Among the artists slated to perform in the tribute to Motown Records are The Commodores, The Four Tops, Macy Gray (news), Gladys Knight, The Temptations and original Supremes Mary Wilson (news) and Cindy Birdsong.

Timberlake dropped out of the show because of a conflict with filming his first movie, "Edison," as a young journalist who discovers an elite team of corrupt police.

The recent Grammy winner had been tapped earlier this year to co-host the anniversary celebration of the legendary soul music label along with Richie.

Timberlake was engulfed in controversy for much of February after he ripped off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s costume during the Super Bowl halftime show, revealing her breast. The choreographed stunt, which both said was not meant to include nudity, sparked a national outcry and an FCC (news - web sites) investigation. CBS, which aired the Super Bowl, only allowed Timberlake to participate in its Grammy broadcast after he agreed to apologize on the air.

The special will tape at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on April 4 and is tentatively scheduled to air sometime in May

Dat show (from what I saw) was whickity whack!

NO MO MOTOWN SHOWS. :o

SKEEphistAKAte 05-18-2004 01:19 PM

Was Raven supposed to be Janet Jackson on that show? I was like  . I flipped back and forth, then I saw Macy Gray. Can someone please tell me how she got a record deal?

AKA2D '91 05-18-2004 01:33 PM

We must have been watching at the same time. That's all I saw. I was thinking Raven THOUGHT she was Janet. I was LOL when I saw the other dancers being "picked up", but they didn't touch Raven. :o

Macy...LAWD! Why her. At least she tried to dress like Marvin. :o

I flipped back and saw Gerald in his PINK jacket doing the twist and the mashed potato. :o

SKEEphistAKAte 05-18-2004 01:36 PM

Macy was it for me. I gave up. Was her hair relaxed/straightened or was she wearing a wig?

On TJMS this morning J. Anthony Brown said he saw Gerald and thought it was a Mary Kay cadillac up on stage. :)

I knew something wasn't right when I turned and saw Cedric-the-Entertainer trying to sing. Fortunately he was on stage with Kim ? :D :D from AI.

Michael McDonald was cool; Brian McKnight's song was arright, but his it looked like his suit didn't quite fit right.

It all went downhill for me after the supremes hit the stage... Sometimes folk should just know when to call it quits... Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong were both h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e!

I thought, overall the show was a HOT MESS!!! And can someone tell me why everyone was singing Stevie Wonder songs EXCEPT Stevie? Where was he???

Kelly Rowland and Lionel Richie sang Endless Love pretty well. That was one of the few highlights.

What was the Disco chick's name who thought she was Tina Turner in that short drapery like 1965 dress? If she jumped up and kicked her old leg one more time we would have all gotten a flash of her support hose that we did NOT want to see

Lordy Be...

I saw was Gladys Knight, and she still got it.
I saw the Four Tops, I miss Levi Stubbs in the group. I know that he has been ill, and the last time I saw a pic of him he was in a wheel chair. It wasn't the same seeing some other much younger guy sing lead.
I also saw The Temptations.

Did anyone see Michael McDonald? One of the DeeJays here was raving that he was excellent, but I didn't see him. I know he has a whole CD of Motown songs.
