They do it in Germany, and that's helped me remember, too. I wouldn't intend to be rude and leave my cell phone on, but I've forgotten a few times until that ad popped up. I haven't been to a movie in the States for so long that I can't remember if they play something like that or not, but they defiinitely should.
Yes they do, and some people still leave their phones on. Now, I'm not normally in favor of capital punishment but...

lol

atleast turn it on vibrate and then you can still get your call. But keeping it on? That's just plain rude.

While we are on movie etiquette...PLEASE use your deodorant before going to the movie - there were some smelly skanky people in that theater! UGH!

Amen and testify!

I remember the seeing on the movie screen "Crying babies should be taken to the lobby"...

I wanted to edit it and say: "Crying babies and small kids need to have their asses home with a babysitter!" :p

Especially after 6 PM

Movie theaters play a short film about turning off cell phones. They make an announcement at plays requesting that the audience turn off cell phone and unwrap any candy or lozenge they might need before the play begins.

yeah, but don't actually answer it in the theater and continue to carry on a conversation.

Okay I went to the 10:30pm showing of the Last Samurai last night and what did my ears hear for half of the movie. Two not one but two loud babies and the idiot parents who kept trying to shush them. WTF???? It was a long movie. This is not a happy fuzzy bunny movie and the amount of violence that went on in the battle scenes was not at all appropriate for them. It's bad enough that these knuckleheads, who were too cheap for a babysitter , have gone and had children. They were also too lazy to go to the Baby and Parent movie during the day. They do that in Chicago too Peaches n Cream. I can only imagine the type of therapy their kids are going to have as a result of their stupidity.

okay I'm going back to visions of sugarplums.....

Me too! These people just amaze/appal me!

"Yeah, I'm in the movie right now. What? What? I can't hear you, the movie is too loud... and all the people around me are yelling at me to shut up. Now they're all throwing stuff... and getting out of their seats... and beating me... aaaah..."

I confront people in the movie theater now for having conversations on the phone, or with each other. It beats being annoyed for an entire movie and not being able to enjoy it. I'm proud to say that I embarrassed a group of 5 teenage girls into leaving Lost in Translation 30 minutes befire it ended for having a cell phone conversation for the second time during the movie.

Oh my, do I hear you all on this! I don't mind the parents who bring kids to movies (plays, conferences, etc...) who are polite enough to immediately get up and go for a walk when their baby starts to cry. I can handle that as long as they sit on the end of the aisle so they don't have to shuffle past 5 times. I'm totally cool with responsible parents.

I don't normally have to deal with crying babies. What I seem to get are the kids in the 3-8 year old range who like kicking the back of my seat repeatedly. You know the ones I mean? They swing their feet back and forth and tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap the back of my seat through half the movie. I might turn around and look at the parents and then at the kid's feet to give them a clue. Sometimes the parents don't get it. I might then ask them to not kick my seat. Sometimes that works and the parent tells little Billy to stop doing that. However, some parents don't keep a watch on their child. After 20 minutes, the kid gets antsy again and starts swinging his feet. Tap tap tap tap tap.....

Wouldn't it be nice if the theaters provided childcare facilities?

They could make a fortune!!! Show kids movies, give them some popcorn, keep them from wandering the theater---- Brilliant idea!!!

Ok, I HAD to bring this thread back up.

I have a 3 month old son. (Smiley, I am sure you think I am a moron...) And, we took him to the movies. He slept right through. If he had so much as even whimpered we would have taken him out IMMEDIATELY... (Easy since we sat on the aisle seat!)

But, right in front of us was a couple with a 3-4 year old little girl. The little girl would ask, "What happened," everytime the movie got quiet! Then, the mother started ENCOURAGING her and agging the girl's talking on!

I started to say something to her and simply ask her if she would try and quieten the little girl down. But, before I could, a lady a couple of rows ahead turned around and asked her to take the little girl out.

The mother had NO class. She started cussing and screaming at the lady while the little girl was in her lap crying. Then, the mother tells the lady that no one else is bothered. Myself and about 20 other people all say that it bothers us. Then, the lady starts swearing so lud you can't hear the movie for about 2 minutes. She tells the woman who complained that she's gonna come beat her face in...

My mother (who like myself, doesn't put with with any crap) gets up and gets the manager. The manager tells the woman that her and her family have to come talk to him outside the door. You could still hear her swearing through the whole thing.

As the mother is told to leave the whole theater, the mother screams that she'll be waiting for her outside of the theater so she can beat her ass into the ground...

Finally, they escorted her off of the PREMISES and banned her from coming back. (The manager was watching out for the lady and my mom since they told on her. The manager advised that she isn't allowed to come back or the police will be called!)

SOME PEOPLE...

The Village was sold out on Friday. The 10:45 showing.

There was a lady with her crying baby 10 feet in front of me. What can you do? You can give a person responsibility but you can't teach them courtesy or consideration.
