Katy,
Don't worry about starting any problems on these boards....I don't think you have! In fact, I think it's good to have discussions like this for all of us....it often leads us to learn more about our organization's procedures and actually helps us to be better members (as long as the discussion remains positive!).

PM me your questions and info about the assignment....I can email them to someone on our Council for input. Be advised though, that things slow down during the month of December (due to holidays) and responses may be a little slow in coming. No guarantees, though, that I can get you the information you want.

And regarding limiting member's speaking to the media, I've seen many heinous sentences that Greeks have said to their school newspapers that I would hate to see used in a more widespread article.

There is no need to apologize. The caution that I, and others, am recomending does not call for no cooperation with you. I am merely recomending that people wait until Monday when they can run this by their parent organizations. Also, you did not cause us any problems. At least half of us like to argue for the sport of it anyway. ;) Feel free to be part of this online community. :)

I'm just trying to say there is no need for caution. I am who i say i am... i'm also just trying to defend myself when u say that I am a member of the media,- i'm not .but its your problem then if you cant believe me

First of all, i think that all of the people in fraternities and sorrorities are mature adults. Therfore, i also beleive that if we decided to answer these questions, we would know whter or not to answer them. For example, if they ask why we joined, or how do we like it, there shouldnt be a problem. Bur of course we all know not to give out any of the rituals or the information that only brothers are allowed to know.

and if you weren't who you said you were, and trying to get a story, wouldn't you say the same exact thing? I'm not saying you're not, but do you get my meaning?

It's unfortunate that what you are trying to do is diffcult, but sororities and fraternities have been burned SO many times by someone who says they're trying to do a "realistic" portrayal or report and then totally sensationalizes it that it is understandable that people are on guard. Meeting people in real life is hard, having contact with someone online is even harder because you don't have any proof of your identity.

I love being quoted out of context. Just love it. ;)

Just send me a pm and I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can also put you in touch with a couple others guys and gals - that way you don't have to sit here and get lectured for no reason. If you say something bad, you just won't get a response. Other than that, it's all cool.

Couldn't help it, Russell.

As for Katy, I think she's got to expect some hesitation. 33girl, well said.

And this, Katy, is definitely something you can use for your paper. This is also part of being Greek.

how? she knows absolutely nothing about the greek system.

i personally think you guys are overreacting. yes i know that we as greeks have been burned many times........but geeze louize, this is a school assignment, for a highschooler, in another country. this is actually a great opportunity for sheading a positive light on greek life, and instead a lot of you are clamming up, telling her to go to your headquarters, and making things a lot more difficult. she wants to know day to day life.

katy, i would be happy to help you out. just send me a pm

the_beast 12-15-2003 11:54 AM

Kathy i will also help as much as possible if you send me a PM.

Rudey 12-15-2003 12:28 PM

Guys some people take this all so seriously it's ridiculous - this is their lives. Just send her a PM or an email and don't worry about how other people react I guess.
