As the child of a mail carrier, I have to say that I never *saw* him with extra money around the holiday time.
What I did see were tons and tons and tons of cookies and small gifts of food and drink. He does a good job and it was always so cool to see how the people on his route appreciated him. Letter carriers (if they're doing their job properly; I know a lot don't) do a lot of work for us. Any acknowledgement at the holidays helps lift their spirits out from under the barrage of Special Holiday Catalogues. :) |
My parents always tip the mail carrier and whoever delivers the milk...
I read in the paper that you aren't supposed to tip postal workers in money- I'm not really sure why, though. |
I just saw an article on MSN about tipping. The Fine art of holiday tipping.

We don't tip our postal worker. We hardly ever see them and it's always a different person.
We tip our newspaper girl, even though she doesn't deliver our paper. She just comes to collect for them. |
My family does. We tip everyone during the festive season. I remember my mom telling me that the sanitation workers (both the regular trash and recycling) were so awed that she would think of giving gifts for them.

This is a little off topic but the thread reminded me of a time back at school when my friends yelled at me for not tipping the gas station attendent. That was the first time I had heard of anyone tipping gas station attendents. So my question is have you ever tipped your gas station pumper?
