I enjoyed the movie as well. Though I grew up hearing about this struggle, it was thought-provoking to watch how this mass action unfolded on the day-to-day level, especially seeing how people were being ticketed for nothing, having to walk in all kinds of weather, disagreeing about strategy and having to work around leaders' egos, etc. I loved seeing how a group of black folk were able to overcome the very HUMAN (not exclusively black) tendency to compete/complain against one another to accomplish a goal, in a very underground sort of way.

The movie got my husband and I talking about other examples of our people's use of the underground/word of mouth to get things done: secret societies of Africa, exchanging knowledge on a plane "others" couldn't comprehend; griots handing down generations of history through the spoken word; drums/songs beating out messages to slaves on different plantations; raisin' up outta bondage on the dl; Pullman Porters distributing the Chicago Defender to folks in the deep South, much to the chagrin of southern whites--and I could go on and on...

I enjoyed Boycott also. I thought that the actress that played Coretta looked amazingly like her. I was also very impressed with Jeffrey Wright's performance. Remember him as Peoples Hernandez in Shaft?

Soror DG and Tickled:

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Also, this flick wouldn't have gotten the "green" light if it didn't have "certain" actors and actresses play the "major" roles... Oh, Boycott couldn't be that realistic... Oh no...

The more you try to make the characters of historical figures look a certain way, to more ameniable we can include the giants (Yurugus)... Couldn't have a beautiful, endowed, chocolate brother completely play the hell outta MLK--definately not...

That was my only issue... Other than that. I think the movie was very well done and crafted in a way for those to experience what it was like during the boycotts on BOTH sides of the track...

I watched Boycott and I enjoyed it. There were some parts of the movie that bothered me as I'm sure some parts bothered some of you also. But over all I enjoyed the movie.

I didn't get a chance to see it. Is it on tape?
